I just ordered a K&N filter for my 09 VTX R and I was wondering if its necessary to adjust the carb or do I just simply install and thats it? Im also considering the spyker modification and would like opinons / advice on whether its a good idea and will adding the spyker mean a carb adjustment.
As always, advice is greatly appreciated.

Stock airbox is too restrictive to need a rejet, just do the SCAR mod...

Now if you modify the stock airbox to open it up than you may want to look into a Factory Pro Kit

With just a K&N filter swap, you shouldn't need any adjustment, but you could benefit by adjusting the air/fuel mixture screw out a bit to richen it up, as these bike are known for being lean from the factory. If you do this it is best to get one of Glen's permanent A/F adjusters and install it and then you won't have to take it apart again just to make an adjustment.

If you go with Spykers kit you can get away with doing the scar mod.
I decapitated my airbox and then did Spykers cover mod, so I went with a factory pro jet kit.

Here is a link to the Scar mod. However don't cut the factory spring down.

I have the k&n filter, and the Spyker mod.......the only two things I have done are......a/f adjustment, and I put a piece of plastic behind the screen from the Spyker mod to lessen the air flow......Spyker gave me something to use, but you could use the plastic from a pack of blank cd's........I have not rejetted nor have I done the Scar mod.......my bike performs just fine.....

I already have the permanent A/F screw installed and I have it set at 2 1/2 turns out.
How difficult is it to do the scar mod, is it something you need to be a mechanic to tackle?
It's pretty straight forward. Since you have the permanent a/f screw it's even easier.
You will basically just be pulling the diaphram cover off the carb, and adding a washer or two to shim the needle up.
If you don't want to get into it and only want Spykers cover for the looks, you can just block off the back of Spykers grill. Then you won't need to change anything in the carb.

Isnt the idea behind ther spyker to let more into the carb or where you getting to much air?

Yes and no.....the Spyker mod will let more air in, and more water in if it rains or when you wash the bike........and its very decorative.......when I first got it, I heard the rush of air coming into the carb......as did others.......so someone wrote up about how to block it from both air and water........by using a clear piece of plastic, I can use lights within the carb to enhance the effects!

scar mod

I have never messed with a carb. But, I watched a video on the Scar mod and decided to give it a try. Piece of cake. The hardest part is removing the tank and once you have done it, it is easy. Since then, I have even adjusted the valves after watching another video and reading posts. That was a little more difficult, but if you get the right tools, not bad. When I got this bike I never thought I would be doing these things, but it's kinda fun and I love the results. Give it a try. There is a lot of help here if you have a problem. Just think of what your saving from the stealer.:mosh:
