Completed the Clayton Mod on my VTX 1300R - sounds great. Wondering if the $60+ is worth it to just change out the stock air filter with a K&N? Will this enhance performance, enhance the sound any? If I add the K&N, will I need to rejet?

Thanks.:patriot:

The K&N filter will increase the airflow as does your Claton mod. My bike is "peppier" with the addition of the K&N filter and I have stock pipes. Normally, you can make one major change without rejetting, but you will have 2 with the K&N + Clayton mod. My guess is if you add the K&N, you may want to rejet. These bikes run lean from the factory, and I think you'll come up short on the fuel end.

Yes, with adding the K&N to the stock box you will increase airflow and have to add more fuel. Instead of getting a jet kit, consider doing the "Scar" method yourself. K&N added to a stock airbox should take one .02" shim to shim the needle up. Your A/F screw is most likely set at 2&1/2 turns at the factory, so you shouldn't have to mess with that. Search the threads on this forum talking about re-jetting and you'll find info. on this method, or got to www.vtxoa.com and look at the thread on the 1300 riders board labeled "Carb Tuning Simplified." This is much cheaper than buying a jet kit, and works well for most out there that have done it. Pretty easy job to do as well. Just a thought.

I have an 06-c with the clayton mod and a K&N filter and did not need to do anything. Runs perfect. As far as sound goes, the only thing you will hear is a little more "sucking" when you twist the throttle. My friend has an 06-c (stock) and side by side I pull slightly on him but I also have 50lbs on him. Runs great, no problems at all.

My 06 1300 really popped and backfired a lot after the clyton root mod and the k&n. So until I can "SCAR" and de-Pair the thing I put the stock filter back in and did the quick fix pair valve thing with the ink pen top. Running great now with just an occasional pop on decel. Gotta dothe fix though.

Scar method

Did the scar mod today as Rich explained. Worked like a charm. Put my K&n back in and am very happy with the result. Guys if you are worrried bout doing this yourself, dont be. It took me longer to get the seat and tank off than to jack up the needle. Thanks again. Great fix. Oh yea, still gotta do the pair restrictor. Just couldn't wait to do the carb. Impatient. So I guess I'll pull everthing off again as soon as I get a plate. I plugged the hose with a bolt for now but theres sill some popping at veryl ow rpms on decel. Guess plugging it isn't the same as putting the plate on. Where can I get this restrictor plate. I guess Honda couldn't sell somthing like this, huh?

There's several places to get these, JP cycle, Extreme Revoution, Dennis Kirk. All are about the same price.
