I recently took a trip to the dealership to find out why my rims were absorbing dirt stains and water spots. The dealership (Sunsports cycle) had informed me that Honda was having a problem with the clear coat on their rims coming off. He (the service manager) told me that on the VTX's Honda did not have any clear coat on the rims thus absorbing stains galore because the rims were a "raw" material. I have found that if you use Mothers Aluminum / Mag Polish (using the power ball tool) to remove dirt and stains. Then follow with a coat of wax works wonders and will make your rims shine like chrome. Hope this helps...-Raymond :mosh:

I have a 2000 Honda Shadow that has a solid front rim. I recently got a new tire and thought I would polish it up while I had it off the bike. I was really impressed that it cleaned it up that well and I wish that it would stay that way. I however never thought about wax.

I'm lazy and dont like to clean but I am thinking of getting chrome rims when I change the tires. How much work are these?:hmm2:
The chrome rims are much easier to get clean than the stock rims. If you have a jack so you can lift the bike and rotate the tires it's really a piece of cake in comparison. The fact they look about 100 times better doesn't hurt either.

I bought a 1100 Shadow one time that had a lotof little "pit" marks all over the rims. The dealer told me it came from up North. I talked him down 500 bucks becuas eof the pits then got it home, took 3 grits of steel wool and mothers polish and went to town. After going with the grain and from course to super fine I had wheels that were shining like a new penny!!

That stuff works great.
