Hi.
I have a lilngering issue in that the key snapped off in the ignition after a mishap this past summer.

Luckily I am able to use the stud to turn it on and off but having stored the bike for winter now I have removed the tank to take in and get buffed/repainted and I've started to take out the ignition switch module.
My first issue is that it's got some really small Torque heads...probably T8 or T7....and my sets only go down as small as T9. Before I go out and track down a small set of T bits does anyone know how to get that broken off part of the key out of the cylinder?
I was planning to take it to a locksmith and hand them the unit once I got it out...but I;m thinking maybe there's a way to slip a wire in there and tease it out from the other end....I could then use it to get a new key cut.

thanks ....

No harm in trying to take it apart. If you have a earth magnet that may be strong enough to pull it out if you spray a bunch of silicone spray to loosen it up.

Congratz on exercising some patience and sticking with it. On the bottom side of your gas cap, you'll find a couple sets of letter/number combinations. The 6 figure/letter combo tells you what type of key blank you'll need. There are 2 of them: HD74 or HD75.
A00-A99 and B00-B99 equals the HD74 blank. C00-C99 and D00-D99 equals the HD75 blank. On the gas cap, the last three in the six figure set tells you which one you'll need. For instance, mine is 5GKD25 meaning my key blank would be an HD75.
Take that info to any locksmith and he can make you a couple of new keys in a few minutes for less than $5. Should be able to use your broken key to do it. Be sure to make sure the new key works in everything: fork lock, helmet lock, gas cap, ignition. The ones I had made work perfectly. I keep a spare key in my wallet. Hope this helps.

If you have the head of the broken key there is a letter/number combo on it like D 23. A locksmith can use that to cut by code or take your VIN to the Stealership and they can order one for you as long as it's original to the bike. Note for boken key removal is a scroll saw blade.
