Dealer

I have never lost both of my keys but I have heard that if you get the VIN from the bike and take it to the dealer they can order you a new key. You could always call a lock smith and have a new key made. It may not work as well as the orig. though.

You could take your title or reg card to the dealer and order a key for your bike if it's like a car not sure. Or remove your key switch and take it to a lock smith and have a key made. Or you could replace the entire switch assy. with a new one. GG :D

:hmm2: I would get creative in looking for your keys. psychic maybe? (hahaha) I would be checking old coats, pants chap pockets have a habit of hiding keys.
Good Luck

I do keep a spare key in my wallet. But The key I use stays in the bike almost all the time. It's not noticable enough for people to think of it as a key so no one has messed with it yet. GG :D

GG, is that your key? How do you mount the key iside and where did you get one?

This is a stock right grip cap. I cut a metal key down and knoched the sides so it would thread down on the inside of the cap. After screwed in tight and centered. I filled the hole all the way up with bondo to keep it from comming loose. Big-X has one made from a small shifter knob I think. It looks a bit better than this one. This one's going on two years old now and no problems. I had some Idea's of cutting one from billet to look like a Ghost. I have'nt really had the time though. Here's a couple of pics. There is still room in the cap for a wire, LED. Blue Dot or Jewl. No limit on what you can do. GG :D

Here is my key, it's a shifter knob from a car autoparts store. just filed down the edges, hammered it into place and glued it, have not lost my key since doing this.
Hey, I have seen Big-X's key in person. My question is will the extra weight prematurely wear the cylnder?? Just a thought. They do look great though.

Use the right one. With the key inside threaded. Then when you put bondo or glue to fill the hole it can't come back out because of the threads. You could also use the Chrome Cap on the top of the grip to frame the end cap. Just a thought. GG :D

BadX and GG, doesnt that make them hard to carry? They look great but not I would think they would be kind of large in your pocket.

Look into JPCycles. Its in the Harley Section but should work for any standard key. Been thinking of getting one myself. No too $$ either. This is the link
http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=24ADA36E-3051-47C0-B9C2-782C86491EF7&search=ness%20tech%20key%20cover&store=Harley&page=1
If that doesn't work for you go to Jpcycles.com, click on the harley parts tab, and then type Ness Tech Key Cover in the search for part box.
Ness makes some great parts for sure. A good price on this too. $14.95 + Shipping = $21.95. You can make it out of the grip cap and have 20 cents of bondo or glue in the whole part. Both Keys have to be cut down, And it takes only 10 min. to complete. And you can say I MADE IT!! GG :D

I don't carry mine, It stays in the bike 24/7 unless I'm in a place I don't trust. Then it's in my pocket. Not as impressive as the one Big-X has with the ladies though. Sorry the key I mean. GG :D

If you know the # that was on your key you can go to the dealer, you show ID, they look up your record and when they are sure it is yours they make you a key. For a fee ofcourse.

Hey gang,
heres what i did with my extra key. sort the same concept but I didn't go fancy or spend alot of time. lol (I am going to do the end cap thing as well but this will do for now) I was at the plumbing section of the store, got me a fancy looking hot/cold lever/knob and cut the threaded section out then centered the key with a couple pieces of tape and used some hardening compund (Durhams Rock Hard Water Putty) to fill the empty space around key, let it set and tada...... This has worked so far but its only a temp thing, someone can do better I'm sure. lol but you could try this too. heres the pictures.........

P.S. I kept the H cause its a Hot bike. lol you could use the C as in Cool wheels or something.

Good work Fondo, See you got the mind a working. A little thought and some hardware, And you have a key Custom Made. As I'm looking at the pic you posted, I noticed the Quarter next to the key. You know a Silver Dollar shined up makes a very nice cover for the rear brake caliber. GG :D

No I didn't now I'm gonna have to look for myself. lol thanks for the praise. this mod requires no key cutting unless your wanting to make the knob fit closer to the ignition. Then you could maybe find a longer knob or cut the key up to you. lol.
