Kuryakyn Saddlebags without saddlebag supports?

Anyone tried the Kuryakyn Gran-Throwover Saddlebags? They say you don't need to use supports or mounts of any kind. I am not a saddlebag kind of guy and will only use them if I am on a long trip. This is all about function and I am not worried about how they look, just heard bags can get caught in the wheels and other horror stories.

Any thoughts?
