I have a 2004 1300C and I have it broken down with the Tins sent out for paint. While it is out I'm wanting to add a Hyper-Charger, do the "Scar" mod, do the "Par Mod" but I'm nervous the carb will never run right again. I have the VH Long Shots and I'm told if I add the Hyper Charger it will throw the carb out of adjustment. I have read numerous post about doing all this at once, but I don't want to take it apart every 2 month. I have also read about shimming the needle and leaving the factory jets, changing the jets, just changing the A/F. My head is spinning. Can anyone give me a straight answer.

Save some aggravation and buy the Factory Pro jet kit. The Hypo-charger come with a Dynojet kit which doesn't run well with the VTX and if you add more air, you need to add more fuel (re-jet). The scar mod is a poor man's fix to an already lean carburator (with a stock air box) and when you install the FP kit, you do this anyway. Pair mod does nothing to improve performance. It removes pollution control garbage on top of the engine.

If you have a chance ride an X that has a hype-charger on it before you wast.................uh...............spend your money on it. I have a friend that has one that was on his bike when he bought it. I got a chance to ride his bike one day, my feelings after the ride: Looks fancy, does nothing except introduce a cheap az rubber vacuum hose that will deteriorate within a year and start leaking vacuum and causing the engine to not run well. makes it very difficult to get your foot onto the brake pedal quickly in an emergency. Makes a great door stop, I've heard..............IMHO!!!

The Scar mod is not much of a fuel ad, works fine with stock Airbox and filter....

Once you start adding more air (dont think the hype-charger adds much) you need to Jet it better/bigger IMO.. Or you will run lean, very lean...!!!!
The F P kit is the easiest to adjust properly...

Its like quick sand. once you start you may never recover!!!! LOL
It does take several tries to get it adjusted properly....

Take a breath, hold it, gently release.
Everything is a simple task.
After you take it apart a couple of times, it ends up being like tying your shoes. Just something that you do without thinking about it. Takes about five minutes to get everything apart. I have done it several times in a single lunch hour.
Order your pair plates. They will take a couple of weeks to come in. While you are waiting, do the scar mod. I would say decap, but you don't have the tank to make a measurement from.

Skip the hypercharger for the reasons others have mentioned. Install the FP jet kit instead of the scar mod. Do the Pair mod. Either decap the airbox or at least remove the snorkels inside it. Buy Glen's permanent A/F screw to make adjustements of the A/F screw easier. Do all of the above at the same time since if you do it piecemeal you will have to tune the carb each time. If you do it all at once, there will be only one carb tuning to go through.

G'day,

Vinish

Here's the straightest answer I can think of... If you are really set on wanting a Kury Hyper-Charger then, independently from the PAIR mod, the general steps are:

1) order a Factory Pro (FP) Stage 3 kit (not any other brand)
2) following the Scar mod instructions, ignore the washer business since that is for the oem needle - but do clip the tit on the yellow holder so that when inserted into the vacuum diaphragm piston, the FP Jet Needle can wiggle freely (not loose, not tight, just free to wiggle) - leave the big piston spring as-is, no real need to shorten it per Scar method
3) install the FP Jet Needle with the clip on the 4th notch from the blunt end, ensure wiggle
4) install piston/diaphragm making sure the diaphragm is perfectly intact and its bead is properly seated in the groove
5) remove existing 55 slow (pilot) and 195 main jets, spray all around with carb cleaner, and install the 58 and 215 FP jets - while there also clean the float valve, float, and bowl with the carb cleaner
6) button up carb and set Pilot (A/F) screw to 2 turns out from lightly-seated
7) install Kury HC
8) try it out and tune jet needle height and main jet as necessary using Charlie D's sticky thread "carb and what affects what" for pointers and reference
9) come back here and ask us questions if you have issues, as needed
10) guys, did I miss anything?

Yeah, you forgot the part about trying to talk Pinardo out of installing a Hypercharger and instead included some lame, "If you are really set on wanting..." BS :)

Love these responses.....

Decapped factory airbox with tribal VTX cutout in the cover, stock 55 pilot jet, stock needle with two shims (Scar mod) and stock 195 main, 2-1/2 turns out on A/F screw and my bike ran perfectly fine in that configuration for a couple years...Only thing that changed is a Factory pro 201 main jet that added a bit more umph at WOT...Still runs perfect and I have zero reason to dick with it and ruin a good thing

That all being said, the Hype-O-Charger is an overpriced fancy air cleaner that is better used as a doorstop for the garage than a performance addition to a bike..And the jet kit they supply with it is best used to fill the nearest trash can...Pilot jet is waaaay too big, and to try and compensate for that, the main jet is too small...Overpriced Chinese Kury crap....

Most definitely NOT. YOu do NOT need to retune after a pair valve mod.
