I was wondering what that was in your other post. Looks real good.

OK gonna pose this question again. The added weight, especially with the lug nut, is this going to prematurely wear the cylnder in the ignition??????????????????

You may have a point Goldsmith, With really heavy stuff hanging out on the end, I guess it would make a difference in the long run. With the plastic cap I put on mine It may be lighter than the metal key??? Big X has posted no trouble with his. I guess it probaly weights more than the rest I've seen. Looks Killer Though. I think it worth the extra wear. As long as you don't have to change lock sets every couple of years. That could get pricey. GG :D

I agree with this. I think they look great but with teh vibration of the engine it just seems like a lot of wear and tear.

Yea, Rays does look cool, I have held it but cannot remember the weight. I know the lugnuts have a decent amount of weight. I really like the idea and if it can be done with the encaps or something in that weight range I think it should be fine. Long run on the heavier ones may take there toll on the ignition. Just my two cents and ramblings.

I don't think the weight will cause any trouble or premature wear on the cyclinder. We road bikes with multible keys on the ring and blowing in the wind without any problem. I did replace the cyclinder on my 77 wing after 110000 miles but I wouldn't call that premature...
Having said that I'm assuming that no one is putting a cinder block, or bowling ball on their key LOL

Looks good countryboy. Now, how did you do it? I don't think a lugnut weighs enough to ruin the cylinder, but I wouldn't want to carry it around in my pants pocket but the key pocket on the leather would be allright. Great idea.

You're not going to hurt the cylinder with a lugnut on there for a keychain for a couple of reasons:

First, you have to understand what causes undue stress on a lock cylinder - namely, it's a lot of dead weight hanging down and swinging back and forth. The way that sits so close to the lock cylinder, there's not a lot of possibility for it to be shifting around and exerting varying pressure on the lock cylinder.

Second: as someone stated, it isn't like you have keys swinging around in the breeze on it. I imagine that my lock cylinder takes more stress than that does, and all I have on mine is a "remove before flight" fabric keychain.
