meet buddies at harley dealer and the salesmen at the dealer really liked the sound of the bubs.anyway one bud rides a ultra glide and the other a soft tail.the x outran both bikes for 10 grand less, they said that they shoud have saved some money and got an x.now my problem, with the open k & n open air filter at around 70 mph the bike sputters a little.i slow down to 55 and it runs fine, think i am getting turbulance through the filter at this speed and higher.if i give it gas its ok just at a steady speed slight hesitation.bike is not backfiring nor any hesitation on accl.i read on the vtxoa board a guy put a deflector in the front of his filter to stop the wind from doing this at high speeds any advise is helpful thanks

i still havent a chance to run anybody else but ive been hearing mixed opinions about the X vs. other bikes. The guys on here say " You dont buy a cruiser to race with" I dont agree. I like loud pipes and i like going fast so thats cool to hear about the outcome against the HD's. Could you really tell any noticable diff. with the air intake?

:coffee: Cruisers are not tipically set up for speed. Of course you can go fast on one, but that is not what they are designed to do. If you want to put some cash in your cruiser you can make for some "safe" speed. If you just want to go fast without considering the geometry of what you are riding just stap a rocket to your butt and hang on:drunk:

burner,

I get the same thing with the BAK on occasion,. The solution I came up with; I leave the raincover on all the time and that "steadys" the airflow IMHO. Yeh, it might reduce my CFM pull a little, but not significant enough that I notice any difference in performance. I noticed problems usually on very windy days at speeds over 50 mph at lower revs (like in 4th or 5th gear). Once I hit 70 or so, wouldn't notice it happening b/c throttle was apparently open enough. But, anyway, this seems to solve my problem.

oh yea i had a few sport bikes and they do go fast, all my buddies have dropped theirs that is why i got a cruiser we did not go over 90 just comparing the pick up,the harley had pipes chips to make it go faster and he knew the x would be slower, racing was a bad choice of words, this guy and i use to race and the speeds were up to 200 mph i am older and wiser now

LOL, I was on a BIG ride through the tunnel with some sporty guys from work, we had to drop out of line so one could get petrol. We decided to get back to our group and floored it. It was pretty kewl as I was able to keep up through 3rd(think they were helping my ego some) and then they ran away. Of course these were all race bikes so I didn't really care. They slowed down to encourage the ole x along. Ended up being a great time after words and gave the x a real run through that I hadn't until that time. Probably wasn't the smartest, but we were all confy with the trffic and road conditions(at least I was) and all the cops were with the pack we were triing to catch up to.

Knowing what I know about air intakes and all, I would say that you are on the right track with a deflector on the front of it. Can't say as I know one made for it and you might have to manu it yourself.

:hmm2: That's all I can figure out that it's doing...went over it a lot in my head and that's all I can attribute it to. Best I can figure is it gets too much air/some kind of a "turbulence" issue going on and leans the mixture out. Pop the throttle a little, goes away by giving it more fuel. Only does it at around 50-60 for me if I'm "lugging" along in 5th gear at lower rev's. Get above this in speed or revs and no problem. A/F mixture seems to be spot on. Like I stated earlier, the rain cover seems to help eliminate the problem. Doesn't really bother me having it on there anyway; kind of like a dust & dirt "pre-filter." Only other thing I can think of is fatten it up a little more, but it looks and feels right where it is right now.

Any other ideas as to what is causing it to happen DD?
