I was wondering what is the most miles you have seen or heard of on a VTX 1800 Motor? I hear that they are pretty bullet proof as long as you treat them right.

Any thoughts?:choppersm

I have heard of some gettiing 150k - 200k. It has a lot to do with how you maintain it. After all it is a Honda engine.

Don't know the direct answer, but all I've ever owned is Honda bikes, and I've never had a bike give up on me. They are bulletproof, take care of them and they will take care of you, I would think 200K is conservative. I have 55K + on my bike and it runs like a dream!

I agree. While my VTX is farily new, my Wing is an 04 and has 113,000 miles on it. It runs like a top. 200K is a minimum expected from a Wing motor (reg. oil change etc) and I see no reason why an X will not go 150K+. X's sure are fun to ride.

I have a 75 G-Wing with well over 200,000 with only 2 timing chains, tires, brakes 1 battery and rebuilt carbs done once because I didn't drain right for long storage and now she'll start right up. I also had a 01 1100 Sabre that I put 67,000 miles on before trading for the "F" and had only oil, tires and brake changes and 2 battery's.Tires, oil, brakes on the "F" with 38,119 miles. No major work on any one of them. Funny, they're all Honda's.

I'd imagine that if we all chip in and buy Marty a prepaid gas card for about $50,000 or so, we would probably know the answer to this question in about 6 months or so..

Okay, who's in?

Hello; I am a New / Old Guy - DARKSIDER

Hi Folks;
I am 62 and I live in L.A. County, California. I've been riding since last century and still love it, in spite of my health.

I have tried to register w/-the So. Cal group but it tells me that no registrations are possible at this time... or something to that effect.

I've been attempting registration for three weeks, but keep getting the same message.
:banghead:

At any rate. I got my 2002 VTX1800R2 within the last 4 weeks. Since then, I have invested over $1.6K on Bling and other accessories.
;)

So far I've put 527 miles on it.

When I bought it, the tires were useless, especially the rear. So I went ahead and installed a new front tire and a slightly used c/t (205/60/16).

Besides "MADAM X" I own two other HONDA Motorcycles... ('77 GL1000 Cafe Racer and a 2000 Valkyrie Standard).
:D

I look forward to becoming a part of this group.
 If anyone can help me connect w/the So.Cal Chapter, I'd appreciate it.:)

I could be reached via email: [email protected]

As indicated by 1800carl, there are lots of early GL1000's (4-Cyl Box engine) w/over 200K miles and running tops.

I also know of several GL1500-Valkyries (6-Cyl Box engine) w/-over 250K miles. :coffee:

Frankly, I would expect nothing less than 175K out of My VTX1800 engine. :icon_susp
