i read here that there are people who use pledge general to clean all surfaces...but some where i have read that some of you use "mothers" to clean and polish up the chrome and aluminum surfaces...

so i went to the store, they make seperate polishes, and the one for alumninm says not for chrome surfaces...

so my question is, do you buy two seperate mother products for the two or do you use one for both? if one for both, which one?

The aluminum polish smells like it may have amonia in it, which I think would cloud chrome. It works great on the wheels, but I wouldn't use it on the plasti-chrome. You can probably go the other way though, and use chrome polish on the aluminum.
Meguires also makes good products for both.

Aluminum polish is like a rubbing compound and will wear off the chrome over time.
Like someone said, just by both if you want to use Mothers. They last forever.
I use "Blue Majic" bought the tub back in the mid '90s and I am just about out.
Pledge makes your bike shine but there is nothing in it to help protect the finish.
Bottom line get the right product for your goals.

Every tool has a purpose. It does 1 thing. Cleaners/polish/waxes/ are tools. Some may serve a dual purpose but in the long run it is designed for 1 use.
Also by using them for 1 purpose they will last longer.
Aluminum polish has abrasive in it. Some has it slightly but it is there. The only 1 I know of is all metal, in the motorcycle section at walmart. It will polish aluminum but is much better polishing chrome. There no abrasives in it. For hard to get out stains it is really a big help.
just a thought

thanks guys, personally i just use the same product everywhere.....

i had been reading for some time about mothers here and always assumed it was one product until i got there. not cheap, man i dont want three different products. just trying to keep it simple and looking for a clarification on what i had understood from all the post in the past that i have read.

Try Brasso. This stuff is awesome. A military guy turned me onto using it on the bikes I have. It literally wipes any signs of rust away and shines the chrome. It chemical and non abrasive. You can use it on the chrome plastic pieces.

You can usually find the stuff in the cleaner section of a grocery store.

I used enough of this stuff in the Navy, that I think it's permanently embedded in my pores!!
