In an unprecedented move that has put the motorcycle industry on alert, the Department of Transportation has passed a bill that intends to outlaw "chrome finishes that cover any engine, frame, or headlight assembly on new motorcycles" beginning on January 1st 2011.

"Chrome is the silent killer," asserts DOT spokesman Melvin P. Meyers, "and if we can rid motorcycles-- especially cruisers-- of the shiny chrome that distracts motorists and causes accidents, our roads will be a safer place."

Last year, Meyers earned the respect and bafflement of sportbike enthusiasts when he tried to pass an amendment that would have legalized wheelies, and the move to eliminate chrome has led one motorcycle advocacy group to proclaim that, "[Meyers] is not only trying to undermine the cruiser business, he's also a closet crotch rocket junky who harbors a deep desire to see only sportbikes on public roads."

In this mixed up world that our goverment has its hand into nothing they do now would surprise me.
glad this was just a joke this time.:nope:
I knew someone would say it, lol...

And Preacher... truth is, it'd be 'more' dangerous to be strapped to the thing if it goes down... sounds like a true gem you were talkin to that time.

I hope it is, if it isn't, whats next? Seatbelts?
Of course they already tell us to wear helmets (In some states) and require them to be bound by a gov't standard. (No, I'm not against helmets, just against the gov't telling me which freedoms they want me not to have.)

I couldn't tell you how many times I have been stopped for no seatbelts in my old 46 Willy's jeep, took it to court with official documentation in regards to that year not coming with seatbelts and had it thrown out every time. Gotta love it when you win.

but anyway, as far as airbags, mine rides on the back, and is nice and soft and fluffy. :mosh:

In the same law, he also suggested that car windows also shine just as much if not more than motorcycles chrome and is demanding that all cars and some trucks go windowless or at best be covered over with a nonreflective seethru film. Or if all else fails, to wait till the sun sets to ride or drive.

Not a problem, I drive my 74 Jeep topless, I can always fold down the winshield or even just take it off.

You just gotta love being out in nature. That's how I roll:choppersm:choppersm

My first hearse was a 1968 Cadillac that I bought in 1993...Got stopped and was issued a ticket for no seatbelt, and I was wearing the lap belt...Cop said that I needed the shoulder belt also...This particular cop was probably in his early 20's, and that car I had was built before he was even born...I patiently explained that when my car was built, there was no such thing as the shoulder harness...He got snippy and told me I had to add them to my car to be legal, and issued me a fix-it ticket..I dropped it at that point with him..Went to court, and got the original ticket tossed out....Then I drove the car to the police station and had the on-duty supervisor inspect the car for the fix-it ticket...He was a few years older than I was, and new darn well that a '68 Caddy never had shoulder belts...Tore the ticket up and threw it in the trash, and said he'd talk to the officer that wrote me the tickets....Then apologized for the hassle the other officer gave me over this...
