When I bought my 1800N it came with a Hondaline backrest. It's probably intended for an R/S model because of how difficult it can be to bolt it down. Anyway, I have a set of Tsukayu VTX-specific hard bags, which I know work on the 1800N because a number of people have been using them for the past 1-2 years (a guy that I ride with was one of the first and taught Tsukayu that they can work on the Neo). Anyway, the mounts for the bags require the use of the rear bolt on the fender rail, where the Hondaline backrest uses the forward two bolts and cover up the rear bolt completely. I really don't care to drill a hole in the Hondaline mounting brackets -- I'd rather get one that will work for both the bike and the new bags, then sell the Hondaline one.

These are the brackets I have

Does anybody know which sissybar(s) for the 1800N leaves the rear fender rail bolt accessible? The guy that I ride with bought a generic China one off Ebay and it works fine, but I'm looking to find other options.

Thank you!

I'm running the Tsukayu Quick Disconnect Hard Bags with the Turn Signal Cutouts. I've just purchased the National Cycle Palidin Quickset disconnect system for my sissy bar/luggage rack. I've rigged up a quick disconnect system that allows me to remove the sissy bar, luggage rack and pillion seat all in one stroke. Should work well after a few minor alterations. Can go from ridin two up to solo in less than 60 seconds.
Word of Caution, DO NOT PURCHASE THE CALVARAY CUSTOMS QUICK DISCONNECT SYSTEM. THAT STUFF IS JUNK. NEARLY CAUSED MY WIFE TO FALL OFF THE BIKE

Do the bags still sit pretty flush against the bike, to where the signals fit nicely into the cutouts? I would LOVE to know how you did this, if you'd be willing to share some info on what you had to buy and what you had to do to get all this to work.

Your description of your setup sounds like exactly what I would love to have. I had the NC quick-release setup on my 1300 and loved it... But I figured all that hardware on the 1800, with these bags, would push the bags out too far.

Thanks!

Check out the video of my prototype
Very cool idea and setup with the seat coming off as part of the backrest / luggage rack hardware! Obviously you had to do a lot of your own fabrication for that -- great job!

My real question is how you got this NC quick-release system to mate up with the Tsukayu mounting hardware, as I am in the same boat. I have had my unpainted bags sitting in my garage since last season because I need to figure out what backrest I will be using before I mount and paint the bags. I can't use and enjoy the bags until this has been figured out and it seems a bit hopeless. Hearing that you got this stuff to work together was just what I wanted to hear, but now I need to figure out if it is something that I will be able to do also. All I want is to get a backrest setup that will work with these bags (preferably quick-release backrest), but I don't have skills in fabrication.

So here are the questions I have, if you have a minute to answer...
  1. Was any special fabrication needed?
  2. Were any special parts needed, that did not come with either the NC setup or the Tsukayu setup?
  3. NC does not make a backrest setup for the 1800N... Did you just buy the one for the 1800R? If yes, was any modification needed for it to fit the N?

Thank you!

@Hosko - Are you planning on making/selling your quick disconnect rear seat/backrest/luggage rack system? If so please PM me! Thanks.

The video I posted was my prototype. It worked, but no very pretty to look at. It was with another brand of quick disconnect. I'm currently working with the National Cycle quick disconnect system on a permanent set up. I have a few more things to work out, but I'm confident everything will work fine. I'll post more info soon.
