while moving a few months ago my vtx 1300c fell over (right side) so i orderd the parts (new handgrip and foot rest), installed them, changed the oil and filter and fired it up. at first it didnt start so i changed the plugs. now it starts and idles fine with no choke on but if i touch the throttle it bogs, chokes and stalls. if i have the choke on a little it runs fine, how do i correct the problem so i dont have to ride with the choke on and run the risk of fouling a plug. any assistace would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the fuel is turned on and there is fuel in the tank.
Don't use the choke.

The symptoms that you describe are exactly the same as a vacuum line that has come off/loose... check your vacuum lines...

While you where working on the throttle/handgrip.. your throttle cables are still "proper", right?

Since the bike fell over, it is also possible that the float got stuck in the wrong position... tap on the bottom of the float bowl with a heavy piece of wood or something similar.

Problems with Cab Settings?

Did you ever find a solution for this? Because I am having a similar problem after installing a Dyno Jet kit. The bike starts and runs but only if I have it half choked, if i push it all the way in the bike dies. Does anyone have any recommended solutions?

first off did you trim the tit under the little spring that holds the needle, that is what it sounds like, or you might need to raise the needle to the next clip position.

I did the Scar mod with one shim under the needle and 2 1/2 turns on the af screw. Checked the plug and it's a nice chalky tan color, no popping, idles and runs great. Would like to get together with some of the guys and see what they think. I'm happy with it.

I did not trim the "tit" under the cap...I wasn't sure if I would need to with the Dyno kit. How much play should there be in the needle movement? 1/8" or so?
Just follow the directions in the post from Scar.
set of toenail clippers and cut half of it off, unscrew the spring (don't just pull it) then screw it back on.

Well it's in a recessed hole up behind the carb bowl. You need a D tool to change the setting though. You can flatten out a piece of 223 brass on one side and make it work. Or if using the Scar Method of tuning the carb he mentions to go ahead and cut a screwdriver slot in it. Great Idea by the way. I wouldn't be a bad Idea to read his write up. A lot of info in there. GG :D

Did the air cleaner hit the ground?? Any marks on the outside of it?? If the bike was running good before the drop there's no reason for the A/F to be any different. If you know that your cables are installed right and nothing elese has changed. A vacume line or a hung up float would be my guess. Make sure you petcock is in the up postion RESERVE, Look on the sides of the petcock make sure the gas line on the right of it is hooked and the small vacume line on the left side is on. The petcock has to have vacume to work so no vacume no gas. Also there is a vent line under the tank on the right side towards the rear. Make sure it's not kinked. This could cause a vapor lock and the fuel won't flow. If you have already checked the plugs and they are ok then the Float is probaly stuck in the carb bowl with the needle seated not allowing the fuel to the carb. Other than these things and it being out of gas There's no reason for it not to run. GG :D

It's just mad at you since you took it away from GODs Country. Check the hoses I stated and tap on the bowl with the wood as SCAR mentioned. It's gatta be somthing simple. Good Luck GG :D

Moved? Bike not ridden for awhile? -- If the bike has set long enough then it could be bad gas or a build up in the jets.. So if it has been setting for several months, dump the fuel and put some fresh stuff in there... You could also get some Techron at Pep Boys or someplace like that and follow the directions for adding it to the tank... running some of that stuff through the system will help clean out the carb components and won't harm anything.

On the "needle movement"... if you can wiggle the needle even just a little, then it is "OK"... it's a stiff/non moveable needle that will not find a true path down the emulsion tube.

OK...I trimmed the tit, and now it runs with no choke, but when starting off from a stop sign or red light, the hesitation is so bad its as if i'm running out of gas...but once i get going it has PLENTY of get up and go...any ideas?

sounds like you need to move the clip down another position, or if you are doing the shims put another on in.
