hello everyone, this is my first post. My id is jq55, I started riding (legally) in 1971, I bought a bike before a car when I turned 16. My first bike as a 1966 Honda Hawk 305 and I have been riding Honda ever since ( with the exception of one 1973 Kawasaki). I live in Ontario, Canada so I will be putting the bike away in another month or so. I have a question regarding Cobra Slip on mufflers. I love my 2004 VTX1300R but I would like a little better sound. The cobra slip ons look good and I understand they sound great. Do I have to jet the carb after installing the slip on mufflers?

Thanks ... and i think this site is great!

I'm NO authority.......but from what I've read on here over and over again is that since these bikes are water cooled and have carbs instead of fuel injectors, there's no need to rejet. I just put a set of Cobra dragsters on mine I bought off another member and didn't do anything to mine. The only recomendation I've seen is to maybe adjust the a/f screw a little to make it run a little richer; seeing how these bike tend to run lean from the factory.

No rejetting required for just pipes. I suggest you pick up Glen's Garage permanent AF adjustment screw and set it 2 1/2 turns out from lightly closed. If you do not set the AF a bit richer, you will have a hesitation off idle and backfiring.

Welcome to the Cafe!

The "Carb needs rejetted with aftermarket pipes" thing is for Air Cooled Engines (e.g. Harley Davidson).

Aftermarket pipes run you a little leaner (more heat) and the pipes tend to be thinner (radiating more heat). This is bad for air cooled engines, so they re-jet them to richen up the mix to run the engine a little cooler.

However, we are Liquid Cooled, so our temperatures stay constant, regardless.

Re-Pipe Away!

I always recommend the SCAR Mod and Glen's Permanent A/F Tool for any Stock VTX. Now, having the bike in Canada may or may not change this, I don't know. The VTX's were set Really Lean from the factory to pass strict U.S. Emissions Standards. I do Not know if this applies to VTX's made for Canada.

I agree. When I had my Cobra Slippons for years I did not re-jet. I also Highly recommend installing Glen's A/F adjuster.
