I just bought a '04 VTX 1300R with 6,000 miles on it. So far, so good! The previous owner hadn't registered it in 2 years so I'm not sure how long it sat without being started or ridden. My previous bike was an in-line 4 cylinder... a much different animal. Since V-twins run so much lower and rougher, it's hard for me to tell if I'm running as well as I should be. I still have a lot to learn about V-twin bikes, but I'm always happy to learn something new.

Northern Indiana sends greetings. I also have owned a Honda inline 4 and the v-twin is very different - in an adrenaline rushing, heart thumping, can't-help-smiling-when-riding kind of way.
