I have a problem that has been progressing over the last few months... When I hit the starter, the headlight turns off, but the starter doesn't turn, or make any noise at all. This happens for the first few tries, then suddenly, the bike will start just fine. I dont do anything to help it, I just push the start button over and over until it goes. It seems like an electrical problem, but I have no idea where to start looking! Is there a relay that could be going bad, a bad wire connection? what? Its hard to figure out because it doesnt happen all the time. and when it does, it fixes itself after a couple tries. Help!

More than likely it's your starter switch that needs to be cleaned. If you do a search you can find step by step instructions on how to fix it yourself on this forum.

I came w/i a moment of saying the same.
Thanks' for saving me. Google still a mystery on some computers - phones.
Seeing effort of posted results vs zero does something....lost definition - I'll have to Google.
For Me, if I have a problem to solve.. I want an answer NOW.... search, google, whatever it takes ... even pull a service manual at 11:00pm....

I could not wait .. minutes, hours, days. for an idea where to go, or what to do.

44 years of riding.. I have never had a bike down for more then 24 hours... wait for parts...

twice, I had the spring for the ratchet assembly for the shifter break.. (different bikes),,, crankshaft sensor failure (intermittent).. and at speed only. just to name a few.

The cool part of searching process on Google - instead of using dead end links with no images -
Using image search - then use that link.
Kills an hour of wasted time right there. In some cases limited.

This must be one of few forum browsers to have google search box - below setting tab.
Now all posting results are stacked.

Funny - I never did find a 'lost definition' of several searches done.
At least Google tracked & knows I tried.

Most likely like said above that the starter switch needs cleaning , do not replace it as it is a pain do and cost a bunch and all you need to do is clean the one you have. I've cleaned a few over the years.
