Polaris calls it a motorcycle because it has no airbags and doesn't meet automotive safety standards. I say it's a car because it has bucket seats, a steering wheel, has no front forks, sports a Chevy 4-cyl in the "engine bay", and three-wheeled cars have been done before. What's your opinion?

I know very simplistic. but motorcycles LEAN in corners.... so I know of only one 3 wheeler that qualifies.. made in Italy and starts with a "P". 2 wheels in front and very narrow

Passed one of the Slingshots back in January. Couple riding in it had googles and old school 3/4 helmets + very big smiles. Had to do a double take because it was an all-black blur, and I was leaned over in a curve. Impressive to meet on the road.

I'd call the Slingshot a car (I've seen one on the road, and never for a moment did I think motorcycle) and the CanAm Spyder a motorcycle. You straddle the Spyder, and it has handlebars with motorcycle controls for hands and feet. With the Slingshot, you sit in a seat with an accelerator, brake pedal, and steering wheel.

That said, the Slingshot is $20k of cool! Better then a convertible :)

It is a car! The Indian dealership in Daytona is offering test "rides" this week on them. They try to call it a bike but yes it has bucket seats, a steering wheel, a hood. One guy was going to buy one until he called his insurance company and found out he would have to pay $2500 per year to insure just the slingshot!

Just one more toy that'll be out for sale at half the price in a couple years when people figure out there's no practicle use for it at all! And that sitting in seats in the rain is a whole lot different than a motorcycle seat in the rain! They'll get tired of paying the insurance and the payments and not rididng it! Wonder if they have a convertable top for it? That would make a little difference!

This thread keeps staying in the "what's new" list and shows the last post always as "yesterday" when the last post was actually March 10. Maybe this post will wake up the gremlin, not that I mind continually seeing the last picture...
