I could use some advice. I was washing my bike and there was a mark on the exhaust. Probably a mark from a shoe (or maybe a saddlebag) touching it when it was hot. I had two scrubbers I was using...one was plastic like which I was using for scrubbing bugs, etc and the other was a kitchen type scrubber. Long story short I used the wrong one and scratched the exhaust. Now I am looking for any advice on polishing it back up. They are fine scratches...like the chrome looks kinda dull in the spot I was scrubbing. Any products/method I could use to get the shine back?

Erick you should try a homemade truck drivers polish of jewelers rouge. It comes in square bricks and you can find it at local truck stops. You will need to shave the block with a knife and put the shavings in jug and mix it with mineral spirits. Shake well to dissolve the rouge. I use the green routinely on my bikes and my truck driver buddy makes it up with a gallon of mineral spirits and 1 bar of rouge. The thicker you make it the more cutting power it has so you could experiment with just making a thick past to start out with. We use soft clean cotton rags and some times we have used a large spool of thread that we cut off the spool with a razor knife. It works really well for general cleaning and a gallon will last for years.

I, on occasion, use 0000 steel wool for stubborn scratches. Haven't had any problem yet.

^^ Just be sure not to get the can wet... it will rust :D
I'm pretty sure the never dull stuff has the fine steel wool as well, just soaked in a solution.

I think oven cleaner works well to remove "baked on grime" lol. Just be sure to protect any painted surfaces from over spray. There are a few threads about it on the boards.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try a couple of the suggestions. i suspect that I won't be able to polish it all out, but I will try. Might be able to make it look better anyway.
