Yesterday I filled up and went for a ride with the wife. I set both mileage trips to zero. After riding a bit (I'm think around 40 miles) I came to a dirt road I didn't want to go down so I turned around. In turning I stalled the bike. Went to start it and it sounded like a weak battery. waited a couple second seconds and it started right up like nomal (full charge) This has happen a few times before. But then riding along, I looked down and saw that the trip meter was on the regular odometer, I switch to the trip mileage and it was showing 20 miles and not showing any tenths (as 20 and not 20.3) Any ideas why the trip reset. The odometer mileage is right as far as I think.

Check the battery cable connections first. Tighten them with a wrench not a screw driver. Then check the two green connectors under the right-front of the tank. These supply all power and connections to the dash.

When you went to start the bike and it didn't start, the battery voltage went low enough to reset the trip memory. I had that happen once when the bike stalled on a hill and on restart the battery felt weak and the tripmeter reset. The odometer can't be reset and I'm not sure how it holds it's memory when the battery is disconnected.

thanks guys. the battery cables are tight and I recently replugged the green plugs and tape them up so they don't come lose. Simpleman might be on to something, but why would voltage dropped?

This had also happened to

me a few times, when it dies like that, wait a few seconds before hitting the starter, I don't know why it happens, but it does. I'm thinking that when you hit the starter immediately after dying, it thinks the battery was disconnected, and that's what happens, it resets the trip odo to "0".
