Hello Ray,
I am brand new to your site and today is my first day with my VTX1800c. I'm coming out of a Suzuki VL1500, so I sort of know my way around bigger bikes, however I have never ridden anything like this VTX. I'm the third owner and new to fuel injection and very new to a power commander. Can you recommend a place I can get a good understanding of the power commander, aka what it does, how to set it, and what can I get in the way of performance and so on. I y well and know my way around computers very well. Any help will be appreciated.

Hey guys, my apologies if this is covered somewhere already, but can someone fill me in on how this all works? I download the desired map to my laptop, but then what? Do I need to download/ install some sort of Dynojet software? And where can the connection cable be purchased?

I did look around and found the following, but I'm feeling a little unsure in my understanding and just fishing for a little assurance before opening my wallet.

I'm not Ray, but here's a link to free downloads including computer software, firmware, and tutorials:

i have a vtx 1800c cobra drags and hyper charger need a map
Here's the link for map downloads for your year and model of VTX:
http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/powercommander_maps_installs_product_buy_options.aspx?mdlyrid=122-411&make=19&model=223&make-n=Honda&model-n=VTX%201800%20Retro%20&year=2007&mk=19&mdl=223&yr=2007

Sometimes you can pick a map of a similar fit (e.i. hyper charger with similar pipes) and it'll work.

My question: I don't understand why there would be specific maps for different models of the same year. Is there that much difference between the engines of the 2007 C and R/N/F models?

Got this figured out. For those who run into the same.. You do need to download the software onto your computer. It seems that Dynojet doesn't have a compatible version for the current Mac OS, so you'll need a PC laptop. You'll want one with the same pin port as the one on your power commander. If you're laptop only has USB ports, you can use something like this http://www.walmart.com/ip/13021215?adid=22222222227000278262&wmlspartner=wlpa&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=13686616270&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem but the folks at Dynojet say that this connection will not work four out of five times. If you can do a pin-to-pin connection, you can pick up a pin port-to-pin port cord like this http://tld.en.alibaba.com/productshowimg/355637074-200729899/DB9_Female_DB9_F_9_pin_RS232_Cable_5_meter.html at Best Buy, Walmart, or the like. I paid $40 for mine. Make sure the fittings match what you've got! Once connected, you need to pull up the map on the Power Commander to your laptop opt to upload a new map from whatever you've chosen from the list on the DynoJet website. If you have any difficulties, call DynoJet-- they're vert helpful over the phone.

I have a 2002 VTX 1800C with stock pipes and a kyn hypercharger. Are there any maps out there with this set up?
Fuel mileage is pretty bad at the moment.
Any help would be great.

Just had mine dynoed by Cycle Connection in Maryland, www.mdcycleconnect.com, Shawn did a great job. I have an 02 1800R with decapped airbox, K&N filter, bub chambermaid pipes. I've got 95HP and torque is at 125. I had him tune it between power and fuel economy. AFR is 13.1.

question, I have downloaded all the maps. I can't find one that matches my bike exactly because i do not have an airbox mod on my F model. All I have is Cobra pipes, could i use one that says stock air box and Vance & Hines bigshots and make that work for my map? I ask because i'm burning WAY too much fuel... I gotta do something...

I'm beginning to think that your exhaust, air box, etc have little to do with results of using a PC. Folks with all sorts of different setups seem to be reporting similar MPG. My 2003 1800c has stock exhaust and air box. I used the PC map for stock bike and only got 32mpg solo and 29mpg 2 up. Pretty darn disappointing when PC spouts their BS about a stock VTX being only 60-65% efficient and with PC being 80-85% efficient.

Did the bike seem more responsive with the PC? A smidge. Not enough to justify the DROP in mpg by about 16%!

Power increase is only part of the equation when talking about efficiency.
