I've been looking to install a power outlet for a while now (all I want is to be able to plug my phone in so it can charge while sitting in my saddlebag when I'm on longer rides), but while I'm not terrible with electrical stuff, it's not something I do all the time, either, so I'm still a bit of a novice at it.

:hmm2:

Let me see if I've got this straight:

The actual socket itself that I'd be installing should have a POS(+) and NEG(-) wire. If I want it keyed so it turns off when the bike is off, all I'd need to do is splice the POS(+) wire to the rear (brake) light POS(+), and connect the NEG(-) to any point on the frame, right? (Including a 5A inline fuse on the POS(+), of course!)

Can anyone recommend a good socket? I'm likely going to run the entire socket into the saddlebag to avoid any weather-related shenanigans, so lead length isn't an issue, I can/will dice & splice to fit. Direct links to vendors would be awesome! :D

I personally like the looks of the Kuryakyn Power point....but since you are going to put it in a saddlebag, you might want to go a different route...alot of guys on here have just used ones from auto parts stores.... Good Luck

I thought about that, but when I went to see what they had, it was just a raw socket with no protective shell. I'd still need to get all the other parts, like longer wire and an in-line fuse, and nothing is dressed to make it a simple wiring job. I was kinda looking for a kit that has all the components, so thta it's a bit easier to hide/install.

I'm probably just being overly picky, though. It's going on my baby, and I tend to overdo things a tad. ;)

I just pigtail mine off of the battery tender plug that goes to the battery, Easy off, Easy on.
I thought about that, but I really want it to turn off when I turn the bike off. With my luck, I'd forget about it overnight and trash my battery. It's something I'm kinda famous for with the cage.

Ooo… Now that's what I was looking for. Some are a little pricy, but all in all, it looks like everything I'd need and then some.

Now, I just need to find the wiring harness for my taillights and I should be golden, lol.
