ok i have seen on some sites people taking a non removable back rest and cutting notches out to make it slide on and off. the only thing that they dont address is bolts. any suggestions on a bolt that would be able to be tight on the fender but have enough meat that sticks out so that the back rest can slide onto it like the harley removable back rests.

I saw someone suggested on here getting longer bolts for the rear fender and installing them from the back side and then securing them with a nut from the outside so that when you are removing and reinstalling your saddlebags you only have to remove the nut and don't have to fuss with trying to align the holes in the fender and weld nut from the backside. (sorry for the long explanation)

I don't see why you couldn't use this same principal to accomplish what you are asking about with the sissy bar, especially if you have saddlebags, you would just have more stud sticking out when the sissy bar isn't on the bike but since most sissy bar brackets are a little over 1/8" thick, it wouldn't be much more sticking out.

I found longer 10mmx1.25 bolts at Lowe's and am going to try this when I get my taller sissy bar in.

i have to cobra tall sissy bar with no bags. so im not looking to have the bolt ends sticking out to get caught on a leg or something
I've mounted the bolts from the inside on another bike I have so I could easily mount / dismount backrest / hard bags, etc., then used acorn nuts to cover up the bolt ends - works great.

I like the quick detach backrests/sissybars but didn't want to modify what I have and won't spend the money to buy the paladin. Good luck with your mod.

well i have been looking around and got ahold of a harley (in the showroom) with the detachable backrest from harley. i see how they did it so im gonna attempt mine over the winter. it looks as if i need longer bolts (not by too much) acouple of washers and acouple of rubber washers and it looks like i may have something that will work. im gonna buy or get ahold of a crap piece of metal to cut and see if the mounting idea works before i chop up my back rest brackets. but if anyone happens to want to get rid of some harley quick detach bolts or paldin quick detach kit let me know im always looking for short cuts lol
