I just installed the Hondaline fringed bags...2.5 hrs...nice fit and super hi quality....have the deluxe shelf and matching touring bag on the way....cost little less than a G all together.
soooo expensive!!!!! i choked at the honda price!!!!! any other options?
I don't think you will find an aftermarket bracket set for a regular Hondaline backrest. I've read where people have made they're own by drilling and mounting something directly to the fender supports.

Saddleman and Letherlykes (sp?) are good quality bags at a decent price.
Here's a pike of Saddleman bags with Easy Brackets. I didn't have the backrest on at the time of the pic. I put it on when I go for a ride with my wife, but most of the time I ride solo You might be able to buy a used Deluxe on ebay, or other classified ads. I had the Custom World Backrest originally, but changed it out because I wanted to use the EZ Bracket system. Don't forget, you can always sell your backrest to cover some of the cost.....which is what I did. For the record...I liked the Custom World setup better.

Yep, Saddleman, Leatherlyke and River Road seem to all make very good quality bags at a good price. Check out the internet suppliers sections on this forum and look some different ones up. Just as FYI, don't limit your searches on most internet sites to just the 1300 series X. You'll find some of those internet stores have bags that will fit your bike and look great, but they have them "hidden" under other models/brands of bikes. Just take some quick measurements to ensure they'll fit before you purchase them.

Ghost or E-Z brackets are good ways for a quick-release set-up for any bags. Or, if you want to leave them on all the time just get regular support brackets (obviously cheaper but less versatile). With either Ghost or E-Z brackets, you can basically zip-off or cut the yolk off of throw-over style bags. Don't need 'em since you'll drill and bolt them onto the removable brackets. Some of the "regular" support brackets seem to be designed where you could get away with bolting them on as well, but can be a little trickier.

No matter what you do, don't buy bags and think you can just throw them over the rear fender and "pin" them down with the rear set. They will flop around, possible catch up in your rear end at different points and interfere with brakes, wheel rotation, etc. Just a recipe for disaster. It's a horse, but an iron horse and just be smart and go with some type of support for any bags.

Good luck.

Hey Coley...don't mean to change the subject but where did you get those thin chrome ribs on the back of your fenders?

Coley, I was on here and not trying to jump in front of you-just thought I'd throw out what they are. They're called rear chrome fender louvers (I believe Kury makes them, maybe some other manufacturers). You can find them with most of the aftermarket internet suppliers (such as Xtreme Revolution, Phat Performance Parts, HDL, etc.).

No problem Retro Rich. :patriot:

Actually I bought them from Figowitz. He's a regular on the VTXOA website... I'm not sure he's a member here. Just PM or e-mail him at [email protected] and he will get back to you. I don't think he has a website yet.

Just to let you know he runs a small operation and If he's busy it might take some time....but he will get back to you. The fit isn't "perfect" but it's very close and if you have any problems later...he will stand behind his product, which usually involves sending you the problem strips free of charge. This happened to me and he is a stand up guy.

Last time I heard they were $25 + shipping for a set which includes the front and back. I've had mine on for three years now and I get a lot of compliments on them. They are very easy to install and cheaper the the Kury strips. Just make sure your fenders are clean of any wax and its warm outside.
