I have searched the forum and found some info. Most of which sent me to links that were no longer valid. Here is my question.

I have a Woody's fairing and am getting ready to install different bars. I saw a couple of mounts that seemed to put everything (radio, antenna, mount) all in the same location, next to the clutch lever. With my setup I will not be able to do this. I want it to be as clean as possible and will have to mount close to the middle of the bars. I have asked before and was told the antenna can go inside the fairing. Has anyone actually done that? I already have the radio (Audiovox Onyx from XM)

Here we go:
What mount do you use?
Where did you put it?
Did it come in a kit or did you have to piece everything together?

Any other info, advise is greatly appreciated,
Bodie

My antenna is mounted in my fairing. It's a good antenna with above average reception but I don't think i've listend to the radio for more than 15 minutes in the last 8+ months. everything i do as far as music is through a 16gig SD card or my mp3.

Mine is a smaller antenna that I mounted on top of the actual head unit. Paid like 14 bucks for it on ebay.

He's talking about a Siruis/XM antenna Dave...When I was doing the trucker-driver thing for a living I had my XM radio in the truck...Tried mounting the antenna inside the cab in the space above the windshield, but reception was pretty crappy...Had to mount it outside with a clear path to the sky to get good reception....That being said, you'll still lose the signal in heavy tree coverage, tunnels, etc...

Just an Idea here, maybe make a bracket that would mount to the bolt that holds the windshield to the fairing. Thats if your talking about the magnet mount antenna, even then you could use the emblem tape to hold it onto the bracket.

If it's a magnetic mount antenna, the double-sided tape isn't needed...Just fab up a bracket out of steel, paint it with some Rustoleum in your favorite color and call it done...Used the magnetic antenna on my semi, and it logged a buttload of miles on a bracket done just like that..Only time it fell off was while getting the truck washed...Damn kid with the powerwash spray hose knocked it off...

Yeah, In my head I was thinking if he used aluminum, or something else. The "puck" antennas usually come with a dbl sided tape, but the one I got on my pickup is really strong, I run it thru the car wash and it doesn't move.

I have a mirror mount one on my Semi, the taller one, gets better reception, it gets above the cab better.

With the Sirius app for my Android phone, I now listen to Sirius on my phone and pipe it to my helmet via Bluetooth. It's great and it avoids all of the antenna, receiver, etc. problems!
I think you have to pay extra for that. And XM has already screwed up my bill so many times I'm afraid to try and ask to upgrade.

I could never get the android to stay connected to any streaming radio... I would be too afraid to try my Sirius Sattelite with it.

I do have a Mobile Unit.. Basically, needs a power outlet and a place to mount the little "antennae disk".. the rest can be stashed in the saddlebag because it transmits to a radio's frequency and I only really listen to one station :)

The wire on the XM/Siruis magnet antenna is super long.. you could put it on your rear fender, run the wire under the seats, tank, back to the fairing. or just tack it to te top of the fairing, it's a bit bigger than a postage stamp, not gonna make a big visual difference.

Here, someone actually mounted it on the lever.

Or try this for the best reception
