So, I'm the proud new owner of a 2002 VTX 1800 C. It had 14,700 miles on it when I bought it. I put 1,000 miles on it since then, and now I have a fuse popping every time I turn on the key. I purchased a service manual, and started taking the bike apart. Here's where the problems begin. Nowhere in the service manual is there anything about a Dynojet.
And when I look at the fuse box, the fuse that keeps popping doesn't match up with what's in the service manual. The book says there should be a 20A fuse for the meter assembly. Instead, I have a fuse box that says it's a 10A IND, Meter and taillight fuse. All the other fuses match up with the correct description and amperage.
I'm in the process of taking off the rear fender to see if the tail light wires are the cause of the short, and I'm discovering the joy of after-market parts (like big ass hex bolts) that I don't have the tools for, and so I have to go buy a bigger hex wrench set tomorrow. But in the meantime, do any of you have any clue as to why my fuse box doesn't match the service manual? In fact, the 10A IND, METER, TAIL, ILLUM fuse doesn't match a single fuse description for any VTX in the service manual. I did find the Dynojet website, but I'm still confused as all get out at this point.
Thanks in advance.
