This is prolly a stupid question but do the shocks on the X just spin by hand into what ever setting you pick.
Mine are set at 3 and I would like to move up to 4 but cannot for the life of me get them to move up or down....is there a trick or something?

You can use a spanner wrench to spin them, or you can just take the weight off them and spin them by hand. (I just use large channel lock pliers with a rag so it doesn't scratch them up) If you don't have a lift you can have someone lift up on the rear fender to unload the weight on them to make it a lot easier to do by hand.

I use a rubber strap wrench like (but not exactly this one): Strap Wrench (example, only).

I broke a smaller one when I initially tried to do this (weight of the motorcycle on them) but a heavier duty one worked great. So, if you choose to go this route, just make sure it's heavier duty.

I bought a spanner wrench from an online retailer but it didn't fit the VTX so if you try to buy one, do your best to ensure it'll fit the VTX.

Regards,
Frank

theres should be a shock wrench in the tool kit and its alot easier if you hsve someone kinda gently lift the rearend
I don't know what year exactly, but Honda stopped including the spanner wrench in the tool bag that comes w/ the 'cycle. You have to buy it separably.

Though, I should add I've heard if you ask a service dept. manager nicely, they'll usually let you borrow the shops' to use quickly in the parking lot...

I also use a large rubber strap wrench due to lack of a lift.

I have the Condour rack that holds the front tire and then holds the bike straight up. I have no problem turning the rear shocks using the spanner wrench in the tool bag. This rack is also good for chec king oil and other maintainence on the bike

Last spanner wrench I saw was on my '00 Sabre 1100, but I did save it.... :)

But I usually let me wife change the settings on the rear shocks on mine.. She's a lot stronger than me... in fact she's a brute...
