Guys, doing these Champion Patriot bags for "showmevtx" right now. They had been previously painted by someone else, with a pine limb, from the looks of things. :nope:
I got them all sanded smooth, the existing paint seems to be (if nothing else) bonded well to the bags, so there's no reason to try and strip/remove it. I had to patch a few holes in the back of the bags and am doing a little bodywork now, then we'll be spraying some high build sandable primer in a few places. I don't want the old flame job to "map" through into the new paint on top.
Speaking of which, you talk about hard to get? The green paint on this bike is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get. It was only produced by US Paint for 2 years, I think they said they made 30 gallons for Honda for the 1st year, and about 9 gallons for them for the 2nd year. There was a minimum purchase requirement, so we'll have plenty left over and will be looking to sell some of it off to others who need this color or who want their bike done this color....
