2006 VTX 1800C. I have the Kuryakyn crash bars. The chrome did NOT hold up well. The chrome is about 70% and the rest is surface rust. Thinking of a cosmetic touchup. never did this before so seeking advice.
Can I sand the entire bar, chrome/rust with multiple grits, say 180/220/320/400 and then use an etching primer and top coat with a rattle can spray paint. I'm thinking rustoleum brightworks silver (or should I go flat black).
all the rest of the chrome on the bike is in good shape.

I thought about removing the bars and sending them out to be replated, but when you include shipping both ways and the cost to replate, I at full list price new.

Any suggestions?

You could absolutely paint them using the method you describe. Understand that they will not look like chrome but you could definitely paint them.

After removing the rust/ shiny stuff, look into getting them powder-coated. Black would probably go best with the rest of the bike. My $.02
