they do not have to be grounded seperately, together is fine. ground them somewhere else on the bike and see what happens......i know you must have double checked your connections, but just double check all your connections one more time.

on another note, if you look at the first picture, there is a short wire for the ballast, another one that is longer for the ballast....connect the ballast to the other wire and see what you get. is the "HID connector to bulb socket in headlight bucket" (see first pic) connected well?

i am novoice to the electrical realm, but can you connect a volt meter to the end of the prongs on the ballast to see if you are getting any output?

HID Headlight

Thanks to Footprints write up and the pictures my install of the DDM Kit is done. It took about two hours. It works great.
I DID A BAD THING,,, I tested everything, and then I CUT wires, eliminated the fuse holder and wired it directly to my fuse block mod. All is working well.
I think I am going to order a kit for my truck.

I wish I knew how to post pictures but I don't.

thank you for the step by step instructions. NO instructions came with the lights. DDM should reconsider how they do their wiring, could be a lot easier...
thanks....i agree it wouldnt take them much to put a one page instruction togather and throw it into the package, but .....

Where did you get the metal housing that covers the bulb?
the metal housing came with the kit....it basically keeps the light from hitting the lower bucket reflector to stop it from reflecting upwards, at least that is what i assumed it did....there is a small slit to pass just a little light through it.

Fantastic writeup and a big help. I would've pulled my hair out if i hadnt seen this. Only gripe i have about the ddm is that the long lead on the new setup makes no sense. Nor does the extra balast/ hi-lo plug. But great light and insanely bright.

Big props to Footprints and others who contributed. Got my DDM installed tonight and it was a breeze thanks to your great write up. I am sure I would have been scratching my head for quite a while without your instructions.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info. I ended up going with the Low Beam only 55w 10000K set from DDM. I have had good luck with DDM tuning in the past. I have several of there kits on my vehicles. DDM has some instructions on their support page.

the key to doing it right is to layout the wiring on the side of the bike first and hook it up temp to make sure that things are working....then take the tank off and place the wiring per the steps. its been a while since i did mine, buti did a write up as well, so it took longer. i would say maybe 2hrs max doing it slowly (start-with nothing off the bike ---> end-when you are ready to roll).....others can chime in who have recently done it or remember how long it took when they did theirs.

May i Suggest for those who get the Hi/Lo kit, to add a toggle on/off switch for the headlight. When you turn the bike on it powers up the headlight and when you start up the bike that split second it jolts the Ballast/Bulb which is bad, Blew one out on a 1100 by Excessive cranking when it ran out of fuel to try and prime the carbs. But by adding a switch to the Power lead from the battery improves the life of the system. Just figure i would mention it if it hasnt already been said.
