I have a 2009 VTX1300R. Coming from the bottom of the bike, there is a small drain hose. Can someone tell me what this is coming from, and if I should be worried if I get a lot of something coming from it.

If you are talking about the small hose right in front of the rear tire, that is the coolant overflow. If you have coolant flowing from there you are either overfilled or overheating.

The overflow hose is to the right of the arrow hanging down. Collant should normally be between the high and low marks on the reservoir.

Or, if I'm thinking correctly, I recall a breather line on my old '07 1300R that I believe was for the gas tank. On days that it was ~100 degrees out and with a full tank of gas, I would notice fuel vapors coming from it when it was parked at work.

Yep my 06 R has a fuel tank breather hose hanging down. I trimmed it off a little shorter so it didn't hang down so far.
Yes, it could very well be the vent tube.
On my bike the vent tube doesn't hang down though, it comes down and is tucked into the left side of the swing-arm frame.

Thanks for the info guys. I love riding, but I am definitely no mechanic. I have seen the hose, but never thought much about it. Yesterday when I was leaving work, I noticed a small amount of something dripping out. It was 100deg and it had been sitting in the parking lot all day. I was a little concerned. Breather from the gas tank definitely makes sense. Thanks again guys.

The only stupid question is the one you have and DON"T ask.
+1 Bear.

Yes the stupid question is the one you didn't ask. That little question that had a $2.00 or less solution that is now a $500.00 to a $1000.00 repair because you didn't ask and your bike is sitting still for 3 to 4 weeks during riding time ...

Around the Cafe it is "Ask and ye shall receive". There isn't a problem or question that won't be dealt with and be given adequate attention and a solution provided by one of the members.

Gas tank overflow vent hose and it goes up to a T then to the tank. One side of the T is open so don't plug it because it prevent siphoning of the tank
I knew if I looked hard enough I'd find an answer.
When reinstallling my Tank after a recent valve job, I noticed the tee in the vent hose. Thought perhaps it connected somewhere, but after noticing the tee didn't have any barbs and the end was slightly dirty, I figured it was just part of the vent.
Considering I took a 325mi ride the next day and didn't blow-up anything, I guess I was right.

Had no idea it prevented siphoning from the tank.

What an awesome forum

Revive this thread: if I tip the bike over to the RIGHT by accident, could gas come through this? I just had a spill in my garage after said tipping. Ran until I uprighted. Mojo65 says normal... I say dangerous, but he says stops when tipped far enough. Really?

I thought the hose went to the plug. Doh!
