Survived the Dragon

Well, we rode the Dragon today. I have to say that is was a fun ride. Kind of intense, too, but not as intense as I expected. Maybe because I had been psyching myself for it for so long. My wife didn't scream once, either! (Although there were a few squeaks from behind on some of the more interesting curves!). We stopped at deals gap and I got the patch (of course) and then rode 28 through Bryson City to Cherokee and on through the Newfound Gap back to Gatlinburg. All in all a fun ride today. I've been uploading pics every day to Photobucket: http://s1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh501/trekpsycho/Smokies 2012/ if anyone is interested. We have another 9 days on our trip so there will be more pics forthcoming.

don't tell me your wife was silent during the Dragon!!!! you might have to ride it more often!!!!!!
Well, I did get those squeaks. I think she didn't want to break my concentration. She didn't quite kiss the ground when she got off at Deals Gap, but I think she was relieved!

Congrats! Glad you enjoyed it sir! Nice photo album as well, keep us posted on the rest of the trip!
Thanks. We plan on traveling a lot of scenic roads in the next week and a half. Part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Cherahola Skyway included. Check back for new pics.

Yeah. That was at Cades Cove in the Smokey MT Park. There was an original mountain community back there. The mill still works. It was grinding corn meal while we were there. They sell corn meal and flour that they grind. We bought a bag of each. There are also some old churches and such that you can stop and look at as you drive in and back out. Pretty cool if you're into history like I am.

It's a GREAT ride! Almost a rite of passage! Certainly true that the "hype" seems to exceed reality. It's a wonderful ride, and you pace yourself at whatever comfort level works for you. I like to casually cruise and take in every moment! Not near as demanding when you cruise casually! We go every year in May...also going this year in late Sept. We always try to take new first timers each time.

Highway 28, Cherohala Skyway, US129, 441 thru Smokey Mountains Natl Park, so many routes... AWESOME riding! Check out Bald River Falls in Telico Plains while you are there!
Ok sure will!

Rode the Rattler today on the way to Maggie Valley. Pretty good ride even though we got caught in the rain a couple times. The wife liked it better, no squeaks behind me this time! We're going to stay here a couple of days and then go stay at Deals Gap a couple days before starting for home.

We are planning to ride part of the Parkway Sunday and I see that the Devil's Courthouse is on our planned route. Definitely will check it out.
