It's a GREAT ride! Almost a rite of passage! Certainly true that the "hype" seems to exceed reality. It's a wonderful ride, and you pace yourself at whatever comfort level works for you. I like to casually cruise and take in every moment! Not near as demanding when you cruise casually! We go every year in May...also going this year in late Sept. We always try to take new first timers each time.

Highway 28, Cherohala Skyway, US129, 441 thru Smokey Mountains Natl Park, so many routes... AWESOME riding! Check out Bald River Falls in Telico Plains while you are there!

Rode the Rattler today on the way to Maggie Valley. Pretty good ride even though we got caught in the rain a couple times. The wife liked it better, no squeaks behind me this time! We're going to stay here a couple of days and then go stay at Deals Gap a couple days before starting for home.

My 2 cents:
Ride the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Devil's Courthouse, make the short hike up to the top and I don't forget your camera. The doubleback to NC215 and ride south to Rosman, where you'll pick-up 178 into South Carolina. When you get to SC11 turn left and follow the signs for Ceaser's Head state park. (Aunt Susie's is a nice place to take a break) This will be US276, it will take you back to Maggie Valley via Brevard. Check out the view from Ceasar's Head lookout, and I then follow 276 back, Hawg Wild BBQ will on your way, I recommend their Eastern Style. Make sure you take time to stop at Looking Glass Falls on your way up the mtn. Once you reach the top, you can continue on or spend the rest of your day on the Parkway, neither is a bad choice. Have fun.
