Being up here on the High Plains I feel somewhat isolated from the bulk of the Texas Riders on the Board. Most (Nearly All) events from Rides, Rallies and Meet and Greets take place in the lower part of the State. I made one this year in October in Crockett. Had a great ride down (500+ miles) and had fun at the event but that distance for lunch and conversation is a way to go.

So I was wondering if it was planned far enough in advance if there would be any interest in having a Meet and Greet and maybe a planned ride up here "On the Dark Side of the Moon".

I was looking at a target of June to early July before the intense heat sets in.

Looking at Palo Duro Canyon as a meeting place.
There are a couple of nice rides and sites in the area and the canyon is really something to see. The famous Musical "Texas" would be going on at that time and is something to see. ( I enjoy it and I hate musicals ) Have been 10 plus times.
Another destination to take in, about a 70 mile ride from the canyon is the Cross at Groom Texas.
I was going to contact members of the forums I frequent, here, Texas X Riders, hondashadow.net forum, Texas Shadow Riders and the Honda Rebel forum. I thought this would be an interesting spectrum of Honda Riders.

Would welcome riders from Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado since the ride in for them would be shorter than for you guys from down south in THE STATE.

There are motels available in Canyon Tx and Amarillo and some good places to obtain vittles. Also camp sites are available in the canyon ranging from primitive to full hookup. Shower facilities and restrooms are available at several of the campsites.

Hello out there ……...

Never been there myself, but heard good things and i think rj posted a thread with pictures a while back.

I'll give you a strong "maybe". Palo Duro would be great (not much interested in a humungous cross). 552 miles for me. I could do that in one day, but I couldn't do that packing my wife along. She's done 400 in a day without any problem so we'd be looking at arriving late morning of the second day. Spend some time and another day and a half home. 4 days:hmm2:.....but a tough 4 days. Better figure 5 days. That's less than 300 miles a day....that'd work. If we do that over a weekend, it would only cost 3 days vacation.

Be better if another couple could come along......(hint-hint) MATT!!! :stirpot:

What about you, Tat? You outta be due some vacation. Be cool to take a small herd of us from East Texas. :mosh:

Like M-2, I'm going to keep an eye on this thread.

I don't think there is a gem in this world large enough to convince my wife to ride on the bike that far. :( her poor knees just can't handle it much anymore. We rode to Jefferson from Diana a couple weeks ago for lunch at skinners and that did her in. That can't be but 80 miles round trip.

I'll be watching this one. I can't seem to commit to anything lately so I'll ride this out till we get a little closer.

Thanks for setting this up and taking the lead!

I have family in Tulia and Amarillo so I might be in the area anyway! I love the canyons! I just have to get a better seat for my wife before she will come.

I'll be headed that way for the Coloradical over the 4th July weekend. I guess it all depends what dates you pick. I'll probably also spend some time in Red River...great little town.

The sculptures surrounding the cross are something to see. Very fine work. I am always fascinated by people who can reproduce the human form to such perfection in a medium such as rock or metal. It makes me very jealous, it is something I have always wanted to do but just don't have 2 things. The talent or the patience.

Yeah, I remember you saying something about her knees in the past. Sorry about that. Would you still be going?

Work wise that is a good timeframe for me. I just need to wait till it's a little closer. I have some time off I'll need to use and that sounds like an excellent way to use if to me. :)
