Hey guys, I am at 42k miles, I bought it used with 1500 miles on it 2 years ago. I have a 2006 1300 C.

I just got back from a 4 day road/camping trip from Fort Worth TX through Colorado. I do this every year. I did about 2500 miles in 4 days. I enjoyed every minute of it, I just ride till i find a place to hang my hammock and go to bed. On the way back I was thinking how awesome my bike runs and feels. I also added dyno beads on my balanced front tire, awesome smoothness!

By the way I averaged almost 48mpg on this trip cruising at 65-75mph. However, going 100 miles on I70 to get from Grand Junction to Aspen it dropped to 35mpg because I was averaging 90mph. I think the dyno beads probably helped and I recharged and cleaned my K&N filter.

Because of this forum I have been made aware and been able to do the following work all by myself:

  1. De-smoged the bike (pair valve removal)
  2. Clayton mod- 2 holes, 1/2" in each pipe.
  3. Replaced steering head bearings
  4. Replaced rear shock bushings (glens) 10 second job!
  5. Went to the blue jug from walmart (oil)
  6. Dyno beads
  7. A member actually gave me a k&n air filter
  8. Adjusted valves 3 times
  9. Fixed rattle in headlight and speedometer
  10. Paranoid about the little blue and black wires (ecm) I carry the safety pins and wires with me.
  11. Bought glens headlight extension (3")
  12. Bought memphis lowers for buffeting
  13. Bought memphis batwing
  14. Bought the mustang seat with back rest.
  15. Bought the laminar lip.
  16. Paranoid about rear wheel bearings and flange bearings (I have a set in the garage)
  17. Bought the leather lyke bags

I just wanted to say thank you for all that contribute. You guys rock! :choppersm

Thats the beauty of this site, like Wandering Bear, I've learned more about wrenching on bikes in general in just a short time of being on here than I have in my whole career of riding. This site ROCKS!!!!!

I agree!

Having only been introduced to this board a short time ago, I've already learned more about my X than I had for the 9 years I've owned it. And now, thanks to the members here, I feel confident to make changes and adjustments that will make my riding more comfortable and safer. Plus it'll make my bike look better (in my eyes at least).

Finding this board and getting to "know" some of the members here makes it feel like I have found a new set of friends and brothers to help with any projects I may undertake.

It's a good, secure feeling.

My thanks to the membership.

I know exactly how you feel pastork, I didn't know chit about motorcycle maintenance prior to joining this site, I've also had the pleasure of interacting with and meeting some of the finest human beings I've ever come in contact with. There's no question you could ask that someone wouldn't take time to answer. This place is great.

Compared to all the forums I have been a member of the last few years I have to say this one is the best. Most everyone is nice personable and they ride Honda's, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". It is a great resource for information and if you get stuck someone is there to help. Like I said bar none the best forum I have been on!:icon_mrha

Great post. I'm just getting started (bought a VTX1800R in March) and this forum has helped on numerous issues. Pastork, I'm in Ft Worth too. Let me know the next time you're doing something to your bike and I'll ride over and help/learn.

Same here Henry. If you need some help let me know. I am pretty much done modding the bike, now I just ride and change the oil:D
