Finances are always a consideration. Well, I should say finances SHOULD always be a consideration. Touring bikes will tend to be more expensive than cruisers. All those geegaws and gadgets on a touring bike are not free :) The many people who have added fairings, lowers, saddle bags, trunks, cruise, etc. to a VTX know how expensive these are.
This is true and I'm not done with mine I got the crash bars, highway pegs, daymaker and shocks. personally I dont need or want all the fancy tech I'd rather have a bike like the roadking or the indian springfield darkhorse (wich I could get the indian just wouldnt be the responsible thing to do lol) but maybe one day😎
When truly touring, I find three of the "fancy tech" quite useful - the first is integrated GPS, the second is a true cruise control, and the the third is music. Admittedly, the third, music, is the least important as the ambient road and wind noise over about 45 mph is so loud that it will damage hearing over the long-term so I use a Sena helmet mounted communication system that pipes music to sound-blocking in-the-ear-canal type ear buds. I can listen to music or take a phone call and hear things at a non-damaging sound level even at 80 mph on the interstate. I can also speak into the helmet mounted microphone and the person to whom I am speaking on the phone doesn't even know that I am on a bike.
Hey guys been awhile life in all but figured with some down if post on here. October bikefest in daytona was awsome meet up with a few good ppl and took 1-4 all the way tried out the new gen busa (I loved it ) and m109r (not for me). Made it to the cabbage patch bar where my buddys was waiting checked out the vendors was pretty cool to see so many bikes in one place even seen a bosshoss bike. About 12 we got to the bikes and took a ride to iron horse the back roads was really nice traffic to get there not so much. Pulled in had a few there ppl watch 😏 and just hung out. Headed out a little later and man the sunset through trees riding was better then the ride there. Once we got back talked for a short time more and had to head back. Over all first time at October bikefest was really fun can't wait to do it agian going to leesburg this Friday I'll take pics. Tell nxt time stay safe everyone.

Man I suck lol been a year since I updated ... let's see hmm well upgraded my air intake to open flow, found out the guy who had it before upgraded the carbs with dyno tune jets and also installed the quick air fuel adjuster. Joind a no rules rc club that's about it Tell this year. Well even then not much really was going on went to bikeweek in daytona took long way out nice country all the way, spent the nxt two nights nxt to the ocean was nice. Nxt day we went to main Street (never been prob won't go nxt year to main street) sat on a few indians including the new pursuit and I still like the springfield more lol. After all that we went back to the hotel before I got to crazy on main Street and had a few drinks. Nxt morning packed the bike back up and made the trip back home. now we have today to a small hr trip to lunch nice country roads all the way(country roads less traffic and just nicer riding imo) had launch was a good ride launch not so much way to much money but can say I've been there now lol. I know it's been a few and I'll try to update when I do more rides tell nxt time keep sunny side down everyone ✌😎

Pix are always appreciated.
I retired May 1st of 2017. On April 30th a friend of mine and I departed California for a five day trip to Nashville TN via Hwy 40. After a week in Tennessee we made the five day trip back to CA.

a trip total of over 4,800 miles. I so enjoyed this trip that I decided I wanted to continue.
I have Family in Nashville, I live in SoCal, when my VTX is back up and running I was planning to ride from CA to TN and back. My wife thinks I'm nuts and will get killed, but that is another topic.

how did you find the ride on the VTX over all for comfort and what was the fuel/gas situation like, I find I can only get about 140 miles out of a tank, so what concerns me most is running out of gas somewhere along the route in the middle of BFE.

I will be riding light, maybe one bag with some clothes and not much else, no passenger and unless I find a riding partner I will be riding alone.

If it were me, A couple hundred mi. shakedown run before the big trip would ease my mind for a long haul like that. Thorough planning of the itinerary helps, incl. all possible stops for the night and towns in between, maybe with a couple Forum members to ride with you part way. And for any other help you might need. 140 is good, but maybe less climbing any mountains or against headwinds. I, for 1, envy you this trip, but I know my limits. GL, and stay connected here if poss. and as always no pix, didn't happen.

Sounds like some ones gonna have fun. I'm doing the Ironbutt ride for Florida this June should be fun ✌👍

I will have a few 1000 shake down miles. won't be immediately after the build.

my concern is comfort and fuel, beyond that I don't care, I have no issue camping/sleeping on the side of the road. just don't want to have to push the bike 50 miles for fuel.

Ride into and through W. by GOD Va. Some of the roads there make TOTD look like a walk in the park.

As you well know, there is not a lot of good riding in Florida, especially not in central FL. We go out to the Ozella trail or to the Ocala Natl. Forest when we go for longer rides. "Tail of the Gecko" is about right :)

Heard from a friend that the Count Gilu motel in Welch, W. by GOD Va., is already booking for mid-July. There is also a small gathering of friends in Louisville, Oh. June 2-4.
