I saw a reference to this trike kit in a post earlier this week (http://www.vtxcafe.com/showthread.p...t-for-my-2006-VTX-1300C?p=1003578#post1003578) and thought I'd find out a bit more about it.

The manufacturer is Mystery Designs (http://www.mysterydesigns.com/index.html). They have two trike rear ends and a tilting mechanism which can be installed on top of either. One rear end is a four shock independent suspension (http://www.mysterydesigns.com/suspensions.php), and the other is a rigid axel (http://www.mysterydesigns.com/suspensions.php#fa). The Tiltster (http://www.mysterydesigns.com/tiltster.php) leans the bike for the rider as it senses centrifugal forces in a turn. They've got four major body styles (http://www.mysterydesigns.com/Flyer/2012 flyer.pdf).

I sent them an email asking, "Please point me to information about your ISS and Tiltster kits for a 2002 Honda VTX 1800R. I've got your flyer and have been reading your web page, but it is not clear which of your products fit the VTX 1800."

Here is their response: "The Fixed axle or the independent suspensions will work on the VTX. The Tiltster is not currently available for the VTX. The Tiltster is an option that you add to the ISS as an upgrade. We may have a Tiltster upgrade for the VTX in the future which you can add later on. All of our ISS kits are upgradeable to the Tiltster in the future if it is available for that particular bike. The Honda VTX suspension is $400 more than the standard kits because it is 3" wider in the center section to accommodate the shaft drive. The fixed axle will work as well but you will have to modify the bearing housing to fit the shaft drive setup. The fixed axle is $400 more than the standard kit as well because it is also 3" wider in the center. The shaft drive fixed axle setup is 36" wide overall only.
The Cobra body works the best with the wheels we offer but you can also do the Conventional body if you get special wheels with a high offset on your own. You can send us your swingarm and we can modify your swingarm to bolt up to our suspension for $350. We also offer 8 degree raked trees for your bike for $800. We highly recommend adding raked trees to any trike especially a Honda because it will make the trike much easier to steer.

I followed up with four questions: "Sorry to hear that you do not yet offer the Tiltster for the VTX. I hope it is in your plan.

Four more questions if you don't mind:

1. Are there brakes on both rear wheels or only on one. The writeup on the web page uses the singular when talking about the brake caliper and brake rotor.
2. Does the angle of lean gradually increase as the centrifugul force increases in a turn, or does the lean kick in and out as an all or nothing adjustment?
3. Do you offer a reverse drive?
4. Do you have a dealership local to Atlanta GA, or do you have a customer who might be willing to show off his/her trike?"
