Has anybody purchased/ dealt with www.vikingbags.com?

I am looking for some durable inexpensive direct mount saddle bags and they seem to have a good selection backed with Facebook and twitter accounts to keep up to date. Not to say that Facebook or twitter linked to the company is a shoein for legitimacy and responsibility. :-/

Any input on the company or their products would be greatly appreciated!

Viking is a true ya-get-what-ya-pay-for company. Yes, they're legit. Yes, they seem to stock what it is that you're ordering. Yes, installing them will be a PITA - expect to drill and not have the right pieces shipped with the bags that you need. Yes, they've got little to no customer support (I had an issue that I've given up on resolving because it's just not worth it. Yes, the bags are cheap, will look good on your bike, will hold up well and will give you decent storage. and finally - Yes, I'd probably buy them again if I had to.
Just my .02, hope it helps...

I have viking "touring" bags. As far as touring bags, they are not.

The are pretty good construction and the are hard mount -- which is what I sought.

If I had to do it again, I'm not sure -- I might but might not too. The biggest problem, was the customer service. I had a lot of trouble placing the order, and when I finally got the order in (via phone) my estimated delivery date was grossly mis-estimated (they came 3 weeks late, shipped 1 week later than I was told). All of this, in turn, screwed up my time/plan to actually install the bags. I depended on the time-frame they promised because I needed the bags. My motorcycle became my primary mode of transportation (to and from work).

Anyway, that problem aside, I think the bags are made decently. I really don't know how long they will last. Certainly longer than the throw-overs I had on a previous motorcycle.

The price point it good. The product is fine. I wouldn't say I overpaid for the bags themselves, I'm mainly disappointed with the customer service -- I put a lot of value in that.

All that said, I think they may be a company going through growing pains. I felt the were very understaffed in the customer service area and probably shipping. The employees, when I could get a hold of them, were nice and I think tried to help. There was just some things that were beyond their control once mis-communicated.

Here are the bags I bought: http://www.vikingbags.com/Honda-Vtx-SaddleBags-1300-R-S-Plain-Touring-Specific-Bag-7634-prd1.htm

My motorcycle is also featured in the "customer photos". My product review is posted.

Regards,
Frank

I have the vikings and they were a pain to mount just to align all the hardware
with the bolts. I love them and price was good. Would deal with them again.

I've got the same bags as Jawz(Frank) has and i teamed them up with Edge Ghost Brackets. I had no issues with drilling and needing to buy bolts because the Ghost Bracket company supplied everyhing i need. I would buy the Viking bags again too, basically because you definitely get your moneys worth. :mosh: Bry

I recently mounted a set of Viking bags on my 2005 1300R. They were fairly easy to put on. So far I like them and they work well for what I carry. I am thinking about getting a pair of easy brackets instead of continuing with the hard mounts. It's a pain to clean under and around the bags plus I don't always need the bags on the bike.

I purchased their bags a couple of years ago and great luck with them. I though their mounting hardware was a little cheap. All in all, OK. Wishing you well.

I have them and love them for the price, function, looks and all. Be sure to get the largest size they make for the VTX, they do have at least 2 if not 3 different sizes; the largest does give you a lot of storage over the other.

Ive only had them for 2months, but agree with everyone- hard to mount, but once on very happy with them. For 300 bucks they have to be the best value going. And yes, customer service could be worst ever. They published my comments and rating on their site, only they excluded the two bad comments, only posted the positive. overall, I would buy them again.

Viking Spear Shock-Cutout Saddlebags

If you have a 1300c with a sissy bar, these are probably not for you. The shock cutout is huge (maybe 1/6 of the total volume) and you don't really need it because you will be mounting on top of the sissy bar bracket arms. The bracket arms will push the bags far enough out that the bag won't hit the shocks.

Realizing these didn't fit, I returned them for the Ultimate Shaped Bags. What a runaround. Very poor customer service. They couldn't write an e-mail in understandable English. I had to call them for everything. When I did get someone they were willing to help.

Bottom line: Since I haven't gotten the new bags yet I can't speak to quality. The first bags looked pretty damn nice (but very heavy). If you go with Viking, DO YOUR BEST TO ORDER THE RIGHT BAGS THE FIRST TIME. I know this is hard but the return process is an expensive nightmare.

I've only ordered their large luggage rack bag from them. At first I got a few different ship dates from them but finally shipped. The bag was nice. There were a couple points about it I sent to their customer support as improvement suggestions. They asked for pics, I sent those and they sent me a free studded tool bag which I now have mounted behind the windshield on the Kewl-Metal bag mount.

There are some good looking bags for a good price. Like everyone says tho, you get what you pay for (customer service and installation issues.)

I just bought some and if I had it to do over again I would save the money and buy some real bags. They will work but they are not what
I expected.
+1 - right!!
