Is there a reason why my XTX 1300 hesitates when I accelerate? I can be in neutral or ridding. If I twist the throttle a little more it comes alive/ Any ideas? I've done a pair valve removal and put in a K & N filter. Idle is fine and runs fine except for that little hesitation.

Have you rejetted/tuned the carb?

A rejet/tune is the approach I would recommend. Make sure to make any other changes planned (e.g. pipes, air filter, air box, etc.) before doing the rejet/tune. Also make sure to ONLY use a Factory Pro jet kit to do this rejet and to follow the tuning instructions here on the Cafe in the thread titled something like, "Carb, what effects what".

After putting in the K&N may need to back out the AF screw,,, from what I have read in these forums anyway.

Actually I think you have a vacuum hose leak in it. I've not had a problem with mine and hope not to, but I believe that there's a vacuum advance hooked up to the carburetor. What that does when you open the carb, throttle up, a greater amount of vacuum is created. That vacuum then makes advances the spark spark to the amount of vacuum created. Then you have immediate throttle up. Without the advance the engine has to wait for the CDI to catch up to the vacuum created by the throttle a.k.a. delay. Like I said it's probably just a broken vacuum line, but off the top it's time to call the shop.

Doing a quick check on my manual there is a throttle position sensor which either applies resistance or decreases resistance to the timing. It's electrical and if you have any experience electrical is a bitch. So again call the shop. It really shouldn't cost much. $300-$500 and probably closer to $300.

Well stated everyone. If you still have original fuel/vacuum hoses on your bike, they're past end of life. replace them on general principles. Finger pointing at me. I'm guilty on at least one line too. Your K&N air filter needs to be cleaned & oiled periodically. They have a cleaning kit. Be sure to do that. Same goes for anything rubber in your carb as others noted. Basically, all your rubber is toast or soon will be. May God bless older-ish bikes.

Installing the K&N has leaned out your carb, hence the hesitation . You may need to jump one jet on the low speed jet,(idle jet) Open A/F mixture screw or raise the needle washer one stop Or a combination of a all three. Read about the operation of the carb and how the jets and settings overlap . This will help you fine tune the carb.

Most likely the fuel filter needs to be changed but also what type of gas are using what octane?

There could be some gunk in your tank (fuel filter) and carb (clogged jet or sticky needle).
Invest in a bottle of SeaFoam Motor treatment (www.seafoamworks.com) and add to your tank (it's available at WallyWorld). Of course it'll take several miles to clean your fuel intake.
If you store your bike for an extended time, add a fuel stabilizer to the gasoline, e.g. Sta-Bil (www.sta-bil.com).
