I love the chopper look and I love my bike but I want to do some serious customizing and I've been running the numbers. Between buying the bike and doin the customizing I'm looking at 21-25k total cost. With that said, I'm trying to decide if I'm better off not wasting my time and just getting a custom chopper or spending my time customizing the 1300c. Any thoughts?

~$17-18k (*No labor outside of paint). But I'll sell it to you for $21k:D

There's a few members here that have made some radical customizations to their bikes and from what I've seen, everyone here is extremely helpful.

I had searched for "chopper" on eBay and I saw some really great looking bikes in the 15-25k range and that's really what got me thinking. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I have a good friend who's like a mad scientist when it comes to motorcycles and powersports toys who can help me. Now the whole thing is do I spend the money and have the satisfaction of knowing I did it all myself or just spend the money and get something already done. When it comes to a used bike you never get back what you put into it and when you're buying one the person usually has put more into it than what they're selling it for so most of the time you're getting a deal.

Reading this post I ask...Does the "mad scientist" guy build a bike that just "looks cool" or build a bike that's safe to ride and not kill you??...There's a HUGE difference in the two....Myself, I'd rather sacrifice "cool factor" over "death factor" everytime.....;)

I have considered a chopper. I found this site http://www.chopper-kit-usa.com/ . Don't know anything about them, but it might be of interest to you.
Wow, they have gone up in price. Before I got my kewlmetal kit I considered them. $1900 is way to much for their rake kit IMO. Kewlmetals is only like $400 more and comes with fatter tubes. I'd rather pay that for a known quality item.
