Hey everyone, Im new here. Glad to have found this place. I just bought my 2002 1800C, and im starting to find all the things the previous owner did not tell me about. This is my first bike, so im new to all the lingo...bare with me...lol
The brake light does not turn on. The tail light is on as soon as I turn the key to on, but nothing changes when i apply the front or rear brakes. He had this flashing bulb in it, so i changed that out to a traditional bulb. Still nothing... then i looked under and noticed all the pretty wires just hanging out.... sure thats great! he removed the turn signals as well. so i looked up the schematics, but im no electrician....maybe someone here with more (any..lol) experience can steer me in the right direction...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

As suggested above check for power at the light. If no power there go to the switch, located inside the frame on the right side, check for power going in and coming out.I had to take my brake light switch apart and clean it awhile back. Not knowing what wiring has been changed, hope this helps.

If the brake light is constantly on i would check the brake light sensor. Had the same problem a few months back and some of the wrench turners here guided me to this thread (scroll down it and look at the pic) youll turn the sensor nut to make the adjustment. http://www.vtxcafe.com/showthread.php?t=40720

Ok..so before the fuse blowing, dispite all of those wires hanging down, you said the brakelight was always on yes? (if the answer is yes, check the brake sensor in the thread i linked above) if so that means the stock wires are hooked up. do your rear turn signals work? search the forums for the wire diagram, it will help you with what is stock wires from the harness and what has been added by the preivius owner for extras.

Once you replace the fuse if turn signalsin the rear, brake light and license plate light work, you can tape off those as they are addons for aftermarket items such as rear running lights, additional brake light bar or trunk ect.

If this is not the case refer to the wire diagram for your model bike.
