Folks, I'm seeing numerous posts about VTX1300's have a known issue with steering wobble around 40 to 45 mph while decelerating. What is your experience with this?

Almost everyone has had it and fixed. Very well known and documented issue with VTX 1300's

Ultimately replacing the head bearings should solve the issue. Worn tires and shock cushions will amplify the problem when riding.

Almost the First thing I encountered on shakedown rides.....
"All Balls" tapered roller bearings is the fix...
Rode it for some time before I got it done at a shop..$$$ about $250 if I remember correct.
I supplied the parts, $30 for bearings $90/100 for springs....
Did the Front 'Progressive' Springs at same time..
Amazing difference........

I will be spending the summer season near Hendersonville, NC. However, I will make several trips during the summerto the RDU area to visit my daughter's family (mostly to visit my twin granddaughters). I have the expertise and tools needed to change the neck bearings and would be happy to help. You could either come to my place (~4 hrs each way+2-3 hrs to do the work), we could do the work, you could head home or spend the night and then go home the next day. Alternatively, I could bring my tools and "stuff" on one of my trips to RDU and we could do the work at my daughter's house. She is in Apex.

We will not be moving back to NC until ~May 1. We will visit Apex several times this summer after that but only have one date planned which is the weekend of June 8-10.

Bummer, I'll be out of state for that weekend. I'll have to catch you when you swing back through again.

Hopefully you can manage with the wobble until sometime later this summer or get someone else to help you fix it sooner.

Another option is for you to ride the bike to Hendersonville (~4 hrs) some Sat. morning. We do the work in the afternoon, you spend the night at our place, and then ride home Sunday. If you wanted, we could even ride a few twisty roads in the area on Sunday before you leave.
