Hi Guys,
Today I started to hear clicking by the left engine cover (oil bowl?). Is that something normal? Is that possible that engine is still running some parts in?
I have 3600 miles on it.
Thanks,
orety

many dealers will say it was done but they just listen to them and that is why we learn to do them ourselves.

The quality of oil you use will also change the way the engine sounds.

I'd be happy to learn how to do it.
I sure do know what you mean on that one. I need to get mine done im at 8500 miles now.. It would be nice to get a tech session together and get'em done. I also would like to do some things to the carb as well. I just DON'T feel confident working on that...

That's the thing, I am afraid of doing something wrong what will effectively break the engine seriously.
I think it would be great to watch some sessions from VTXCafe on youtube.
I found a video instruction like that:

Can somebody say if it is good or not please?

After my first $175 oil change :banghead: I vowed to be really mechanically savy about my X. Sure at first I was really apprehensive about taking it apart and putting it back together, hopeing feverishly that she starts.
But now 20000 Miles of riding :choppersm this bike rocks and I know that Ive done whats needed to be done, And I have the confidence that its done right. Plus all the cash I saved.... well I bought a bit of CHROME!!!

Ive just rolled over 24000 miles, going to be doing the valves again the 3rd time and a bunch of other things this winter. Its an awesome machine and IMHO best to know how it works.

You definitely have found One of the Best forums around:mosh:

No doubts :) It's just easy to break engine seriously when you do something wrong with the valves, isn't it?

My biggest problem is that I can't find mechanic who is good enough to tell me if the bike is fine or not, I can only relay on my own hearing and a year of experience using it. The bike is new but my impression is that is going worse and worse.

There are few people on this forum with as much knowledge as Charlie D in regards to the 1300, and he is more than happy to explain things if you're having trouble understanding something. I had the pleasure to meet him a few weeks ago, and he's a heck of a nice guy too. Don't be too afraid to dive in and do some of the work yourself. I was the same way until I met Charlie D and Wayne.

It would be definitely good thing to meet all of you guys, if only I lived in North America :)
I respect knowledge of wise people here, I just don't trust myself.

By the way, one of my friends suggested today that that the noise can be coming from clutch and the cause can be the oil in the engine. How often should I change oil and filter, and which oil is the best for our 1300s?

I'm a little weird - I believe in frequent oil changes. So I change oil and filter every 3000 miles. I use Rotella 5W-40 full synthetic. (diesel oil but certified for gasoline and motorcycle engines) Don't know about England but most all Wal-marts and Advance auto stores carry it in the US. $20 for a 4 quart jug.

+1 on the rotella just avoid "energy conserving" oil

The clutch basket floats and can cause some noise nothing to worry about.

I just use the cheepest good quality oil that is on sale most of the time just make sure it doesn't say energy conserving.

In the next week or so I will roll over 80,000 so I think I may be doing okay by the oil.
