This might sound like a dumb question, but I've had my 1300C for 4 years now and I've never made any adjustments to the shocks from their factory settings.

Can someone explain to me why I should want to change the setting or switch to Progressives. The only nuisance conditions I've experienced in the last four years is that I've noticed that the bike takes railroad crossings and highway expansion strips kinda hard. Would adjusting the factory settings or upgrading to Progressives correct this?

You say factory settings?? What are they set on?? How much do you weigh? Do you ride alone or two up mostly and if so add their weight? I ride alone + 2 up..250# myself, no not telling wife's weight but I run on 3 for best overall ride...one of those things you have to try for yourself but if feels like bottoming out then probably should try adjusting....I would try playing with that before Progressive....also I think I am right, if you jack up the bike where the rear tire is hanging it is easier to turn the adjustable shock.

I run on 4 as 225 lbs myself and daughter or wife (120-140) are often on board. I don't notice a dramatic difference from 3-4 but never have bottomed out.

Progressives are cheaper than oem, they also make the bike sit a little lower.

Before you commit yourself to replacing or adjusting your shocks, try checking your shock bushings. It's not hard, only four bolts. My bike seemed to have a rather harsh ride so I ordered new shock bushings, they sat around on the work bench for months before I got A ROUND TOIT. Needless to say, "Bad Idea"!!!! This is why.

Replaced these plus changed the shock settings from 2 to 4 and it feels like a whole new bike!!!
