had a full set of honda pads laying around and even though w/29000 on the originals i thought id change them. the fronts were branded nisin but
the rears said ebc and made in usa. is ebc a honda supplier? the
originals were branded the same way. i still had at least half left
on the pads but its the 9th season. i thought it was strange not to
have the same company pads all around.keep in mind these are
all genuinue honda parts. --irv

EBC part number is FA196HH for the sintered pads. I changed my front pads when I got the bike(used with 64000 miles(!)) and there was a huge change for the good. the intial bite was the same, but the front sustained it braking MUCH better than it did before. I just picked up another set for tha back, and in the EBC parts book the part number is the same. More to come on that, once I tear into that. Change or have you brake fluid swapped out if you haven't already done so. Old fluid makes for heat tranference, "squishy" levers/pedals and the water build up isn't good for any part of the prake system....

EBC and "Honda" pads are NOT the same....I have EBC pads on the front of my ride now, and once they're worn out, I'll never buy another set of EBC pads EVER again...Noisey P.O.S. pads!!...Have a customer bike in the shop right now that needs pads all round, and all the dealers around me only stock EBC...Needless to say, this bike still needs pads....If a customer says to put them on, I'll do it, but if I have any say in it, I won't recommend them to anyone....:nope:

BTW....Sintered pads are "rotor eaters"....Pads are a helluva lots cheaper than a rotor....;)

good advice on changing the brake fluid, but i dont think good advice on using any brake pads but the Honda oem pads. Buy them from directlineparts or bikebandit in the Honda oem section. imho, using ceramics, sintered or other ebay or online pads is only asking for trouble. :coffee: Bry:choppersm

Coming off of sport bikes, I've never had any problems with my pads, and they never ate my rotors anymore than the oem pads, and I wasn't kind to my brakes, track days and all. But Bassdude has more experience with VTX's so I'll bow to him. My opinion is with the "Cager's" around, I want all the brakes I can get my paws on...

with the size of the front rotor on the 1300's these bikes come to a really fast stop when you grab a handful and footfull of brakes This is my first cruiser, and it surprised me how strong the brakes are. Stick with the bassdude, he's usually on the money with things vtx. :mosh: Bry

ask me how i know the 1300 brakes are so strong. yep, u got it, oncoming cager turning left in front of me. The stop wasnt pretty, but it did the job.

i change fluid every 2 years. just couldnt figure out why honda packaged
parts would have ebc instead of nisin on them unless it was an
engineering suffix.
dont worry only honda part are used on my brakes--irv

My front brake buzzes when I squeeze them, and it seems to be coming from the master cylinder. 25 years of car wrenching, 20 years of bike wrenching, and I've never that before. Everything works, fluid is swapped out to Honda OEM Dot 4, bled properly...and so on. But they buzz. My old ears could be deceiving me(jet engines and proper VTX's are loud!), but I swear its coming from the cylinder...
