It would be interesting to read what the opinion's are regarding windshield materials....lexan versus lucite. Is one better than the other? Does one eventually cloud over (turn hazy)? :patriot: salute...and thank you:choppersm

Lexan

I would think that the lexan would be a better choice for the long run. I've got some that's 1/2 and been outside in the weather for going on three years and it still looks good. A little white around the outside edges where it was laminated. We use these in a lot of Deer Stands for windows and mount them to gas charged cyclinders to raise them up. There outside year round and they hold up better than any thing elese I've came across. lol :D

Reason I ask, I used to work in an office bldg. where they would be broken into on numerous occasions. Finally, they switched out the glass windows to lexan. Within a years time I noticed spider cracks or lines and hazing. Looking at the various mfg.'s of windshield's I see that both materials are being used. I believe Lucite has been around much longer than Lexan, correct me if I'm wrong. Also if anyone has a photo of a Kury lightbar install with windshield, would like to see how that looks and any feedback if any.:choppersm

The trade name "Lexan" is polycarbonate material and is more shatter resistant than "Lucite", which is acrylic material. The acrylic is more scratch resistant but will craze with time. I have good results with applications of 3M boat liquid boat wax on both the Lexan and the Lucite. This wax provides a UV protection and water sheds off as well. We apply this 4 times a year. Note: make sure the windshield and cloth are grit free. This wax will fill in minor scratches only so much.
Have a Never Better Day and ride safe.
