Am wiring a Cycle Sounds audio system to my 1800N.

The instructions tell me to use a clamp on the accessory wire for the bike (for the red wire on the audio system) and then wire the black and red wire to the ground terminal on the battery.

My question is - which wire is the accessory wire? Is it the solid red wire in this picture on the clear plastic connector (next to the blue and orange wire)?

As you may be able to tell, wiring is not my strong suit. Would like to avoid shorting the bike and the audio system.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

If I were you Harry I would add a fuse block that is triggered from a relay total cost is around $20 and then you have up to 6 fused circuits you can use and best of all no worries of overloading anything.

Jconrad did a nice write up on how to do it but he wanted his hot all the time so did not use a relay.

If I intall a fuse block on a relay, I still need to split a wire. Which wire?

you can splice into the brown tail light wire, not my pref. though
I like to use the one in the headlight to trigger the relay this way when you hit the start button it shuts down everything in the fuse block.
The diagram I have says it is the blue with white piping in the headlight this is an old write up so can't be positive on it.

So is it the brown wire coming out of the black harness in the picture (to the left)?

I went to a honda dealer that had some wrecked bikes and picked up a plug that would fit the empty spot. Then add a relay with a fuse block.

The brown wire is for the tag light.

Just a suggestion. You might want to wire it to a direct hot. Otherwise the key will have to be on to hear it. While your riding thats not a problem but when you stop it is, and believe me there WILL be times you want to listen to it while stopped. Again, my two pennies.

I'm pretty sure the memory wire will need to be constant hot too else you lose memory I believe. Accessory is fine on the accessory side of the key. Of course they all wire differently, don't mean to step on toes here.

mine is marked memory but it hooks to the acc side then 12 power has to be direct to the battery, had a heck of a time trying to make out the crap that was printed in the manual.

remember to turn anticlockwise was one term.

Red and black from your ignition switch to the fuse block (under the Right side cover) is the common for switched power.

And it is not fused until after the block so put in some type of fuse between the splice and what you install. I would suggest installing a relay by attaching a wire from the red and black to the coil wire of the relay then running power from your battery through the normally open contacts of the relay so that whatever power you draw for the audio system is direct on line from the battery and not drawn from your ignition switch. The only load for that would be the coil on the relay.
