I have decided to join the darkside. I am in need of a new rear tire, and you guys convinced me that ct is the way to go. Ordered dyna beads yesterday and will pick the tire up this weekend, chose the Hydroedge 205/70/15.

The only thing holding me back was verification from my insurance company that it would in no way void my insurance. Once I got the all-clear from them, I was sold.

Ill post pics and thoughts when the swap is complete. Thanks to everyone for excellent write-ups and opinions.

Let us know how you like it, I know I love mine

Curious who's your insurance company and did they issue you a letter or anything verifying the coverage?

Progressive told me the same thing. No problem.

Out of curiosity, what made you choose the HydroEdge?

Congrats on the choice. Going Darkside was one of the best mods i've done yet. The first good rain you get caught in you'll truly appreciate it, if not before.

From what it sounds like most people go with either the Good Year Triple Tread or the Hydroedge, and I couldnt find the GYTT in a 205/70/15 anywhere.
That HAD been true in the last few years and those folks are hanging onto them for sure, but now that the word is out, many more are trying out and loving the two more round edged Yokohama AVID Touring S and the (slightly more "aggressive" looking tread) Yokohama ENVIGOR.

Check out post #32 for a visual comparison of all four together here: http://www.vtxcafe.com/showthread.php?t=64172&page=2

I went with a GYTT about 400 miles ago because my Metz880 (3000 miles) went flat from crap in the road cutting it. The GYTT was the only one avail local that day so I went for it. Had a HE before on an older bike. Both are great. It takes a few to 'break in' but I like the ride. When I stop thinking about how the bike feels and just ride there is no real difference in handling. Just like anything, if you look for differences you will find them. If you just relax and ride it is perfect.

Cage SC: I found the Yoko Touring S in a 205/70/15, but not the Envigor. Would you suggest a different size. I have read some post that said the 205/65 are hard to get the bead to seat.

I have also seen that some people have used the General Grabber which seems to have a more curved edge. Any other suggestions?

PM BassDude about that, he has more experience with different sizes. Or...just go to http://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com/http://mcdarksiders/forumotion.com/ and ask there. Better yet, take the time to look around on that site for your answers. It's not as "high speed - low drag" a forum as this. But the info IS there.

Not too sure about bead seating issues, but the 205/65 will be a little bit shorter than the stock tire, which will make the speedometer error even worse...The 205/70 is a little bit taller than stock, so it brings the speedometer closer to correct...

I went with the 205/55 for the low look... :D

However, I had previously adjusted my speedo needle to get me back to about 1 to 2 mph off at 60... now with the 55 series mounted, I'm back to about +/- 8% incorrect again...

Oh well.... I guess it don't matter... I can't really read the speedometer anyhow, being half blind and all, since my teen years...

A friend of mine locally has a General Grabber, and the first one blew up when they tried seating the bead, and the second one the bead would not seat. Then the third one did seat, and he is very very happy with the ride, last I checked.
