Can we make this a sticky? It would help when peoples ask for electical help not to have to search for it everytime. Thanks for getting the right one up I had not found the time yet. The other one was for the 1800's:banghead:.

Cool now I just got to remember where it is.

 

When I click on the link within this thread, it just says "The page cannot be found". Honestly it's probably a problem on my computer/network but I don't know.

I just opened the link then saved the picture to my computer. Put it in folder and on jump drive with my vtx manual and I'm set. Thanks for posting!

 

Here's the latest. One new plug installed, both male and female. Turn on key. Now have dash lights, right turn indicator. Don't remember any more. Good start.

Begin to replace second plug. Key is OFF. Cutting off old connector. Take cutters, cut all six wires at one time. Sparks fly, fuze blows. OK, now I know the current is off. I finish up both male and female connector. I now have both connectors replaced. I replace the 10 amp fuze. I plug speedo unit back in to both plugs. (It was not in the circuit when the fuze blew) Turn on key. NOTHING. No current. I test every pin with volt meter. One pin shows 12 volts. All others are dead. I checked hot side of fuze. It is OK. Didn't check low side of fuze. I assumed since fuze was good current must be travelling through it.
I check fuze again, all are OK. I AM STUMPED. Anyone got any ideas? I realize that the fuze has to send current to different devices to make the idiot lights work. What I can't figure is how all of them are dead.

Electrical connections are tough.



I have an old 2-year electronics degree from the community college, and I can tell you, auto/motorcycle electrical problems are frustrating, to say the least. I would say look for a bad ground. You say you can find +12 volts with your voltmeter, but where are you grounding the voltmeter, to the frame? In both of the connectors, find the pin that goes to ground (to the frame), and check for continuity to the frame. In all the wiring on the bike, the frame is the ground, but there's always a wire running to everything that is ground also, because the copper wire is a better conductor. Try loosen the wires where they connect to the frame and sand both surfaces clean. Good luck, and Rock On.
