Synthetic Oils….most use Full Synthetic 5W40 or 10W40.
Just be sure you DO NOT USE energy conserving oil. This will damage the clutch system on the bike. Use only oil that meets or exceeds the manufacturers recommendations. again, DONOT USE energy conserving oil.
There are 2 , repeat 2 oil drain plugs. You must remove them both!
Oil is checked with the bike upright , not on the kickstand with the dipstick just setting on top.
NOT screwed back in.


CharlieDgets credit for this idea: after the first time you check the oil with the bike up on a block of wood or someone holding it upright for you, and you know the level is correct, put the bike back on the kickstand and check the dipstick again.
Scratch a mark on the dipstick where the new full mark is and you can from now on check the oil while the bike is leaning over on the kickstand. Much easier.
Always rub a little oil on the oil filter gasket before screwing it on..

Removing the Stock Emblems
these will come off very easy if they are warm
Use a hair dryer or sit in the hot summer sun and you can slowly twist them off.
Most guys use dental floss and a sawing motion to slice thru the sticky tape
between the badge and the bike. remove glue reside with goof off or the like and wax.

Great info, thanks for taking the time to do it. The link near the top for the Hicks A/F screw (HicksA/FScrew….http://home.earthlink.net/~hickmachine/products.htm) is dead, but you can still find the screw at the Hicks link near the bottom. Thanks again for the easy info!

 

A small addendum

I searched the forum for Brake Fluid type and couldn't find a definitive answer. I checked the Service Manual, it says to only use:

Hate to call out another dead link, but the Dyna Beads link goes nowhere. I searched a handful of sites, and this one seems to be the cheapest, even after shipping, and they come pre-packed in the tubes.

The Bosch 3300 oil filter has the wrong threads. I just tried using it yesterday and had to return it and get the stock oil filter.

I searched everywhere to find M10 X 1.25 button head screws long enough to fit Cobra Bungee knobs and a thick baracket for my hard saddlebags.

The crush washers are missing a 0 in the parts number 94109-12000 is what i believe that they should be.

On a side note, has anyone had luck finding these? I can find the 14000 like goes on the shadows, all day long. But the 12mm is seemingly more difficult to find.

 

Earlier this year I went to my local stealer, told them I needed crush washers for my VTX 1300. Paid for them and went on my way. Wasn't until after I got home (and after the stealer closed) that I noticed he had given my the 14mm washers! Was able to pick up a set of 12mm washers at my local Advance Auto, so no riding time lost. Took the 14mm's back to the stealer and changed them out for the right ones, so I'll have them for the next oil change!

I have 05 vtx 1300 that I am having a problem. Sometimes when I start it starts fine, but sometimes it starts &within 10 secs. it shouts off. Does not want to restart. Any ideals.

 

Moble One M1 110 oil Filter ?

Thanks for all the hard work that went into putting together the common parts list numbers :mosh:Has anyone else had trouble when replacing their oil filter with the M1 110 oil filter. The starter thread was different and would not screw on. I returned the filter and went with the Pure one oil filter.

its like it not fireing i need help have a ride a church tommorow

I'm going to buy CP handlebars for my 04 1300c. Do the 1.25" bars w/9" rise and 11" pullback, have at least an 8" cut for the grips and controls? And how much pullback is 11" compared to stock?

Im new to the vtx 1300 and was wondering what kind of performance I can get with an k&n air filter and jet kit?

 

You will gain nothing to speak of.

Stock air box just doesn't let the air flow free so to gain anything you have to change it to another type or mod it.

 

I would like to add to the rear wheel removal- #1- get the Moly Paste on ebay or Amazon (I got an 8oz jar for $20)- it's well worth it, #2- change the flange & hub o'rings 91358-MG9-003 (50.5x3.5) $3.04 and 91302-MA6-003 (61x2) $4.22, #3- if it's your first change, you might want to consider sending it to Jon Losey and have him correctly machine it.
